Video: David Warner sets himself up for the historic Day/Night Test

The bat in his hand has never looked as broad as it looks now and if one considers the form he is in then there might be no need to turn the lights on at Adelaide; be it a pink, red or white ball stay rest assured that David Warner will deposit them in the stands.

With three mammoth scores in past four innings including two hundreds and a double hundred, it is safe to assume that the main on-field attention for the third test might not be the pink ball or the artificial light but David Warner, the modern day gladiator.

Test cricket under lights is a modern day spectacle tailored to promote the viewership and create a buzz around this decadent version of cricket. Add to that the fierce rivalry between New Zealand and Australia and you will come with a formula that rivals the most imaginative ideas outta Hollywood.

He can be seen practising in the promotional video and by the looks of it, warnings should be issued to low flying objects – as it would be hard to ascertain where the missile was launched from, David Warner’s bat or the barrel of a stinger.

Test cricket under lights is an idea that was in the pipeline for long but the real challenge was to find a ball that was suited under lights as the white ball is hard to see in the backdrop of white clothes and the red ball is not a day night thing.

How the pink ball will behave under lights is something that we can all speculate about. Nathan Lyon, the Australian spinner has said, “It's perfect. Batters can't see the seam”.

How things unfold in this historic test is yet to be seen but this hard fought series has already done a great service to test matches. New Zealand, after the first test, have looked far more competitive and have conducted themselves as a real fighting unit.

Australia lead the series 1-0, however, there is a promise for entertainment galore in the coming weeks for cricket enthusiast.
