ICC T20 World Cup 2016: Five funniest moments that don't fade away

David Willey celebrates by doing the 'Champions' dance after dismissing Darren Sammy.

“Why so serious?” said the Joker in The Dark Knight before adding, “let’s put a smile on that face!”

While the Joker’s method of putting a smile on the face includes using a knife to pierce the corners of the mouth, we certainly don’t entertain that and would request you to not go down that road.

However, there is a much simpler way to see yourself smiling. In the World T20 2016, there were some moments that don't fade away, quite like the Axe Signature line of body perfumes. We pick out the five funniest moments that will bring a smile to your face and cheer you up.

David Willey Champion dance

One of the best things to come out of this tournament was the viral spreading of the song made by Dwayne Bravo: Champions!

The song created waves as every West Indian danced to it in order to celebrate just about everything. However, it wasn’t restricted to only the West Indians. As many fans became dancers to the song, England’s David Willey became its first non-West Indian exponent on the pitch.

After Darren Sammy lofted the ball to Alex Hales, for what seemed like a practice session catch, David Willey celebrated the wicket by doing the ‘Champion’ in front of the very creators of the song, an act which put a smile on everyone’s face.

The West Indies players – Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy, after defeating India in the semis, performed the dance while walking from the bus to the hotel. Chris Gayle was also dragged into the dance and he also showed off his moves to the popular song. The fans assembled to greet the players also got involved and they made it a spectacle. These guys sure know how to party!

Chris Gayle getting pushed by Ian Gould

After Chris Gayle had to take time off from fielding due to an injury, he couldn’t come out to open the batting because as per ICC rules, a player can only bat for the period of time he spent out on the field while his team were bowling.

“We want Gayle,” shouted the fans in Bengaluru. For them, he was a home boy because of his endeavors with Royal Challengers Bangalore. And seeing him padded up and ready to bat, and yet not being allowed to do displeased them to no measures.

Gayle wanted to bat so badly that when a West Indies wicket fell, he was about to step on the pitch when Ian Gould intervened and pushed him back to the dressing room in the funniest fashion. The people around were seen smiling at this hilarious sight.

MS Dhoni’s press conference

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has, in recent times, become renowned for his quirky behavior at press conferences. The man’s transformation seems to have no end as he was, in the beginning, known for his long-hair and highly aggressive batting style followed by the invention of the helicopter shot

Then he became captain cool.

And now he is the comedian in press conference. When an Australian journalist asked him about his retirement plans, he asked the journalist to come up and sit beside him while saying, “let's have some fun” and fun, we did have watching that incident.

What happened next made everyone in the room laugh their wits off. Dhoni asked, “Do you think I am slow?”

“No, I think you are very fast,” replied the journalist.

“So you think I can stay fit till 2019?” Dhoni asked.

“Yes,” was the reply.

“So you have answered the question,” and that is how Dhoni made a journalist answer his own question.

Chris Gayle dancing with the Afghanistan players

Everyone knows how to win and celebrate it later. However, only a few people know how to lose gracefully. But a very, very few people celebrate the win of the opposition.

And Chris Gayle is one of those large-hearted guys out there. The Calypso King is known for his larger-than-life personality. In fact, he has sometimes been criticized for his party-loving flamboyant lifestyle.

But it is this personality that allows him to celebrate the win of an opposition with the opposition itself.

In a dead rubber match, where both West Indies and Afghanistan had nothing to play for—Afghanistan finally got the win they were so deserving of for the way they played in the tournament. Gayle was happy for them and led the party scenes with the Afghans.

We could learn a thing from Chris Gayle.

Virender Sehwag's quirky quotes

Virender Sehwag was an explosive batsman during his time. But the other thing which is less talked of is his highly outspoken nature. One could almost say that he played a very important role in initiating the rivalry between Bangladesh and India with some comments that outraged the fans.

But we will leave that for another day and focus on what’s on hand.

As a commentator, his humorous nature was more highlighted as some of his comments were absolutely hilarious. Commentating in Hindi, some of his quotes forced a smile on fans’ face and here are some of the best of them (translated to English, of course)…

On Nehra giving Pandya advice: “Nehra just gave Pandya some advice. I guess he was sharing his experience. This could turn out to be great or it could be damaging.”

“Every batsmen respects two ‘kar’s: Tendulkar and yorker.”

“There shouldn’t be a super over because otherwise we would have to do more commentary and the kids will also have to stay up late.”

“The whole country salutes the boss’ missus, the size of an elephant and the advice of Ashish Nehraji.”
