IPL 2016: Kieron Pollard feels Rahul Dravid is helping young Indian cricketers greatly

Despite being an iconic cricketer, Rahul Dravid always preferred to stay away from the limelight. In a new capacity as the Mentor of Delhi Daredevils, the 43-year old is certainly drawing from his playing experiences to shape a calm dressing room.

Remaining wary of his next opposition, Mumbai Indians talisman Kieron Pollard has heaped praise on Dravid's tactical acumen. NDTV Sports reported the hard-hitting batsman speaking about the veteran’s influence on young Indian cricketers.

Recollecting Dravid’s stint with the Rajasthan Royals during the previous editions of the IPL, Pollard affirmed, “In Rajasthan, also there was a young team. And if you look at the person working behind scenes, Rahul Dravid has done a magnificent job with youngsters throughout India. And they all are gravitating towards him.”

He added, “Even in Delhi, youngsters are performing. They went and beat Bangalore in Bangalore. He has confidence in the youngsters and there is no better thing than going and performing there.”

Confirming Pollard’s theory, a member of the Daredevils support staff quipped, “Things have got very systematic, this season. The team is in order and there's hardly any scope for confusion.”

“Each player knows what he is supposed to do on each given day. It gets very difficult to keep such a huge squad in order on day to day basis. But, Dravid manages to do it.”

Contrary to the prevailing trend in the league, Pollard also felt that chasing targets was still tougher when compared to batting first. The powerful Trinidadian asserted, “Even though you know how much to get, you still have to get those runs. Then, wickets will fall and you will go on a back foot. And you have to change your game.”

However, the right-hander conceded, “But, whether you chase well or bat first, you have to bat properly. In any ground when you go, you know what is the par score. If you give your hundred percent and execute your plans and lose, I would accept that other team played better cricket. But, if we can't execute then we have to look at the faults.”
