IPL 2016, Stats: All-round Kings XI Punjab thrash Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets

Kings XI Punjab had to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) match to have any chance of making it to the playoffs of the tournament. And Punjab came up with the right goods as they put in a comprehensive performance to defeat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets.

After choosing to bat first, Mumbai was never in the contest as they lost wickets at regular intervals. They had one of their most horrible starts to an IPL innings as they could put up only 124 on the board.

In reply, Punjab captain, Murali Vijay led from the front as he notched up another fifty and remained unbeaten as he saw his side comfortably across the finishing line. Wriddhiman Saha also ably supported his captain by scoring another fifty.

2 – This was only the second time in the IPL that two of the top three batsmen in the Mumbai side were dismissed for ducks. The last time this happened was in 2009.

3 – Glenn Maxwell was dismissed for a duck the third time this IPL. This is the joint highest for any Kings XI Punjab player in a season.

3 – Murali Vijay scored his third fifty in the IPL as a captain. This is the joint second highest for any Kings XI Punjab captain.

12 – Mumbai Indians took 12 overs to reach a score of 50 in IPL. This is their second slowest team fifty in IPL.

17 – Mumbai Indians scored 17 runs in the 15th over of the batting innings. It was the first over to go for more than 8 runs in the innings.

21 – Mumbai Indians made the lowest powerplay score in the IPL this season. This is the second lowest score for Mumbai in IPL powerplays.

34 – Rohit Sharma has scored just 34 runs in the five innings he has batted first in this IPL. He has made 394 runs in the 7 innings he has batted second.

53 – Only 53 runs were scored in both the powerplays of the match. This is the seventh lowest in the history of the IPL.

57.25 – Murali Vijay's batting average as Kings XI Punjab captain. He has scored three fifties in five matches as captain.

116 – The century stand between Murali Vijay and Wriddhiman Saha was the first for Kings XI Punjab since the 2014 IPL final.
