IPL 6: MI vs SRH - Flops of the Match

When you are the lead fast bowler of an outfit, you know your role; Scare the batsmen witless, and uproot their stumps. Unfortunately for the tattooed Aussie quick, pint-sized Parthiv Patel decided he quite liked the Aussie quick’s bowling, carting him to the ropes four times. The first over went for 19 runs, and Johnson never quite recovered – his 4 overs going for 43 runs – and though he did get a wicket for his troubles, he looked absolutely listless. Not helping his cause either was the atrocious fielding.

Dhawal Kulkarni

With his new ball buddy having a bad day at the office, the Mumbaikar decided he would join him in gifting the Hyderabad batsmen a few juicy ones as well. First Dhawan and then Cameron ‘Bear’ White decided they would oblige him and sent him scurrying to the dugout with his tail between his legs, having been belted for 42 in his 4 overs, including a six off the last ball of the innings. White hammered his last two overs for 24 runs.

Pragyan Ojha

Is this the same bowler that is praised when he wears the Test whites? Ojha hardly looked like he would inflict any damage on the Sunrisers Hyderabad line-up. Trying to stare down Cameron White just made the ‘Bear’ angry, as the Aussie muscled his next ball right over his head and over the ropes. Bowling flatter than normal, he lost his biggest asset – deceit through flighting the ball – and the results were there for all the world to see. No wickets to his name, and 37 runs in debt.

Thissara Perera

Bowling length balls to Kieron Pollard. Not a good idea. Period. Perera found that out the hard way. 5 sixes off the blade of the big West Indian saw whatever dreams that Perera may have had of finishing the match, disappearing into the Mumbai Skyline. Three and a half overs of his bowling, one of which went for 29, saw Cameron White trying to hide his head in his hands. As for Perera, well, the less said, the better.

Amit Mishra

If Perera was guilty of bowling length balls, Mishra tossed the ball onto the big blade of an even bigger Pollard. Almost as he was taking candy from a baby, Pollard sent Mishra’s lollipops into the crowd, who made their appreciation known by clamouring for more. He did oblige them, as Mishra tossed them up again and again. His third and final over – hammered for 21 runs – sent his somewhat normal figures into the stratosphere.

Cameron White

The Bear did bat well but it was captaincy that left him staring at the heavens, wishing the earth would swallow him whole. He only had himself to blame for the fiasco Perera and Mishra created.
