Punjab Kings (PBKS) stand-in skipper Sam Curran castled Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opening batter Phil Salt with a searing yorker in the ongoing 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at Eden Gardens on Friday. The explosive right-handed batter had dispatched his national teammate for consecutive sixes to begin the 13th over, but his innings came to a screeching halt with the dismissal.

Salt was looking to switch gears even further after reaching his fifty and having guided KKR to a lavish platform after being put into bat first. He dispatched Curran's slower delivery with ease down the ground to begin the over.

The left-arm pacer attempted yet another slower delivery, but the execution was off, as Phil Salt thumped it over long-off for the second six of the over. The bowler ditched the slower delivery after being hit for 12 runs off the first two balls and switched to a classic fullish delivery, bordering on a yorker.

Salt tried a hoick across the line, but the ball found the off-stump, which was uprooted as well. Have a look at how the over panned out right here:

Phil Salt scored 75 runs off 37 deliveries at a strike rate of 202.70. His innings included six fours and six sixes.

Phil Salt and Sam Curran are having contrasting IPL 2024 campaigns

Sam Curran boasts one of the biggest IPL paychecks and is currently leading PBKS in Shikhar Dhawan's absence. However, he has not had a season to remember with both ball and bat. Batting up the order, Curran has only scored 152 runs in eight innings at an average of 19 and a strike rate of 116.03.

Phil Salt, on the other hand, was unsold at the IPL auction and was roped in as a replacement for Jason Roy. The opening batter has forged a brilliant chemistry with Sunil Narine at the top of the order, playing a crucial role in KKR's success in the 2024 season so far. Salt is among the leading scorers, having accumulated 324 runs.

KKR are inching towards the 200-run mark and still have five more overs to capitalize on. The two-time winners could post a historic total to cement their second spot in the points table.
