Open letter to Sean Abott

Hello Sean,

This letter comes to you from just an ordinary cricket fan who like everyone else is saddened by the events that have clouded the world of cricket. With the events that have taken place in the last few days first of all I want to tell you that all that has happened is not your fault,those things were out of your control.

I wish I could say that I could understand what’s going on in your head as other than Phil’s family you’re the one who would be affected the most by this incident but there’s no way I could feel what you are going through right now.All that I can come up with is that some things that happen are just unfortunate and you have to understand that this was one of them.

Bouncers were part of cricket even before helmets came into existence and you did just what you were expected to do as a young charger gunning to represent Australia in the future.

There are many things that could be going through your mind.The biggest being “WHY ME“ of all people. But you have to understand that it was something that wasn’t planned or even thought of.It’s something that just happened.

You might think an inch higher or an inch lower,an inch to the left or to the right and the world could’ve been a different place for you right now but sadly it’s not the case. This is the point of your life where all your courage,your strength your love for the game will be tested.This is the biggest fight you have gotten into my friend and this is the one that i hope you win with flying colours.

Some advice that I can give you is to keep yourself away from all kinds of media around you,be it a newspaper, television,twitter or facebook because let’s face it Sean, the world is filled with unsensible morons who would blurt out anything to anyone because they have a medium to get their voices through(Infact i’ve even already heard of such occurence where people on social media sites have tried to target you unnecessarily).

So please deactivate your twitter and facebook account if you’ve not done that already as soon as possible and try to keep some distance from Television and newspapers.

Take some time off my friend,be with your family and loved ones and try to sort out any cobwebs you might feel can prevent you from expressing yourself .Currently there might even be a thought of quitting a sport at the back of your mind but all i’d say to that is I’d respect your decision should you choose to take it but if that is the decision that you’ve taken then I hope it’s taken after taking every thing into consideration like why you started playing cricket and what was your childhood dream,maybe even consider what Phil would’ve wanted you to do after all that has happened.

As a young charger at 22 there’s always that fire burning inside you to prove yourself to the world and to make it big in your field. I hope that fire is still burning brightly inside you because you seem like an impressive young guy, you’ve already made your debut in the limited over format for Australia and it will be a shame if cricket lost a good talent because of an unfortunate incident.

As a cricket fan I hope somewhere down the line I see you marking your runup and getting ready to bowl against us Indians.To be honest, I’d be gutted if you performed well and beat us but there will be a part of me that’ll be happy to see that you’ve made it.
