Sachin Tendulkar reveals his secret diet that earned him the World Cup Trophy

Tendulkar played a pivotal role in India winning the 2011 World Cup at home

Indian Maestro Sachin Tendulkar has finally spoken about his special diet which he had followed during the 2011 World Cup in India. The World Cup winner revealed that he had to survive only on boiled food for months before the start of the mega-event, in order to be healthy and fit, reports IANS.

The legendary cricketer, who had reached his 50th Test Ton in South Africa in early 2011, was ruled out of the subsequent ODI series because of a hamstring injury. During this phase, the 42-year old confessed to consuming only boiled food to keep himself fit in time for the World Cup.

“I remember in South Africa in 2011 just ahead of the World Cup when we started playing the One-Day Internationals against the Proteas. I had given a big lecture to the Indian team that for the World Cup we have to sacrifice something.”

Tendulkar also spoke about how the entire team had sacrificed their share by losing 3 kilograms each, in order to be healthy. “And as a team we decided to lose three kilograms each and get fitter. After that I pulled my hamstring and I was out of the series,” he recalled.

“So I can’t run and do exercise and not even give excuses that I couldn’t lose weight due to the hamstring. In three weeks with whatever limited amount of training I underwent, I managed to lose almost four kilos. It is also to do with mental control and discipline. As and when I wanted to lose weight I always had boiled food,” he added.

Training hard is the integral part of sports: Tendulkar

The Master-Blaster’s perseverance earned him and the team the World Cup after 28 years, on the night on April 2, 2011. Soon after the glory, people in the cricketing community started speculating that Tendulkar might retire soon. However, the man himself was determined to push ahead and played for a few more years, before finally hanging up his boots in 2013.

“For every sportsman their body will give them a message that if something is going to be wrong or you are pushing too hard on something. Towards the end of my career I realized there is nothing better than training hard and that is the integral part,” he remarked.

Tendulkar is currently busy organising an All-Stars T20 League in the USA, along with Australian Shane Warne. The duo’s initiative promises to popularize the game in the Northern American region and is expected to see the presence of several other retired legends of the game.
