Australia vs India 2014/15 - 2nd Test, Day 2: Facts and figures

Josh Hazlewood picked up a five-wicket haul in his debut Test match

India were bowled out for 408 in their first innings on day two of the second Test at Brisbane. Josh Hazlewood was the star for Australia, picking up a five-wicket haul in his very first Test match. Starting the day on 311 for 4, Ajinkya Rahane was the first to go, caught behind off the bowling of Hazlewood for 81.

Rohit Sharma, once again, failed to convert a good start and was dismissed for 32, caught brilliantly by Steve Smith to give Shane Watson his first wicket of the match. Captain MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin then put on a crucial 57-run partnership for the seventh wicket before Ashwin became Hazlewood’s fourth victim for 35. Dhoni fell soon after in an unfortunate manner while trying to leave a delivery, and that completed Hazlewood’s five-for.

Coming out to bat, David Warner and Chris Rogers gave the Australians a good start before the former was dismissed for 29 off the bowling of Umesh Yadav. Rogers and Shane Watson then put on 51 for the second wicket before Watson was caught for 25 by Shikhar Dhawan off the bowling of Ashwin. Rogers was the third wicket to fall for the Australians on the stroke of tea, for 55 off the bowling of Umesh Yadav.

Shaun Marsh got a reprieve in the final session when he was dropped on 32 by Ajinkya Rahane, but couldn't make the most of that chance and was out on the same score to give Yadav his third wicket of the day.

Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh added 13 for the fifth wicket before bad light brought an early end to proceedings on day two, with Australia still trailing India by 187 runs.
