Australian batsman Steven Smith has lost his top spot in Test Cricket after scoring 33 in both the innings of the 1st Ashes Test match which Australia lost at Cardiff, reports ESPNcricinfo. South African ODI skipper AB de Villiers has jumped to the number 1 position now in the latest ICC Test rankings.

It will be interesting to see how long de Villiers can hold on to his spot as he won’t be playing his side’s Test series against Bangladesh which will begin in a few days time. England’s young sensation Joe Root also enjoyed a productive jump as he entered the top 5 for the first time in his career after scoring 134 and 60 in the 1st Test.

He is now placed at the 4th spot just behind South Africa’s Hashim Amla. Root wasn’t the only Englishman to climb significantly though as Stuart Broad also entered the Top 5 in the bowling charts. Broad was criticised a bit before the match but came up with some strong performances that were acknowledged by the skipper Alastair Cook.

Dale Steyn continues to lead the list with James Anderson in the second spot. Pakistan’s new sensation Yasir Shah is placed 4th just below Trent Boult.
