Gareth Bale does not rule out a move back to the Premier League

Gareth Bale has not ruled out a possible return to the Premier League

Real Madrid and Wales star Gareth Bale has not ruled out a return to the English Premier League (EPL), but he has affirmed that he is currently happy playing the 10-time European champions. Bale was speaking to the Daily Mirror about his ambitions and a possible return to the EPL.

Bale's return to the EPL has always been a speculated topic, with Manchester United reportedly being the club that wants the Welshman's signature the most.

However, Bale has insisted that he is enjoying the central role at Real Madrid given to him by Rafa Benitez and believes he can thrive there. The attacking midfielder believed that he has reached the pinnacle of football playing for the Los Blancos.

“I will never say never when it comes to going back to the Premier League because you don’t know what the future holds. But I am enjoying my time here. I am very happy,” Bale said.

“I like the role behind the striker and feel that’s my position. I can drift into areas, find the space and when I get the ball, I can attack. It’s my best position – and I think this year is going to be a great season,” he added.

The 26-year-old is set to move into the peak years of his football career and playing in his favoured position might just work out wonders for him as well as for Real Madrid. Bale has, however, not been able to play as much as he would have liked, owing to a calf issue.

In the six games that he has featured in the La Liga, he has two goals and four assists to his name, clearly showing that playing in his preferred role is helping get the best out of him.

He featured in Madrid's recent 0-4 hammering at the hands of a dominant Barcelona side. Bale will be hoping that he can stay away from injury during the rest of the season and help Real Madrid get back into the title race.

Despite not aiming for personal glory, Bale also believes that he could compete for football's highest honour – Ballon d’Or – with two of the world's best players – Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

“I feel like I am capable of achieving that because I know my ability. I wouldn’t say winning the Ballon d’Or is my aim or my goal because, for me, it isn’t really about individual awards. It is about winning the Champions League and La Liga – and when you do that, the other things come,” Bale said.

Bale had won the PFA Player of the Year award when he was playing for Tottenham Hotspurs in the 2012/13 season. He revealed how he never aimed for the award and all he hoped to achieve was to score and create goals and do his best for the team.

“The award is an obsession for some players. That might work for them, but I just want to score and create goals and win trophies. If individual awards come they are just a big bonus,” he added.

Bale helped his national team, Wales qualify for the UEFA Euro competition for the first time in the country's history. Wales finished second in their qualifying group, just two points behind No. 1 ranked team Belgium. Bale scored seven goals in the ten matches he played during the qualifying stages.
