Chelsea news: Rio Ferdinand rates Eden Hazard over Alexis Sanchez

Eden Hazard is back on song this season

Former Manchester United centre-back, Rio Ferdinand, is of the opinion that Chelsea star Eden Hazard is the best attacking player in the Premier League ahead of Chilean sensation, Alexis Sanchez. The former Barcelona forward scored a fantastic hat-trick against West Ham on Saturday, propelling the mass to consider him as the best in the league.

However, Rio Ferdinand doesn’t appear to be among those people who rate the former Udinese star over the former Lille youngster. Indeed, when asked whether Sanchez was the best player in the league, he said that while the Arsenal man is among the finest, Hazard is the one to beat when it comes to comparing them at the peak of their powers.

"He's [Sanchez] definitely one of [the best]. I think Hazard takes some beating when they're all on song but this guy, he's carrying this team.”

However, the former Leeds United defender also claimed that the Chilean is the man the Gunners look for when they are in need of inspiration

"He's the guy that is the inspiration. [In] defining moments of games, he's taking the opportunities."

Indeed, with 13 goals from 19 appearances this season thus far, Alexis Sanchez has stamped his name as the prime number 9 for Arsenal. Sanchez’s incredible goal-scoring run has prompted Arsene Wenger to keep French striker Olivier Giroud on the bench.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard is going through somewhat of a resurgence under the former Juventus boss, Antonio Conte. The Belgian had a torrid time on the pitch last season under the self-proclaimed Special One, Jose Mourinho, but is now getting back to his best under the Italian.

It is with the help of Eden Hazard’s good form, coupled with Chelsea’s brilliant and cohesive defence, that the Blues now find themselves leading the table after winning eight games in a row—beating the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and, most recently, Pep Guardiola's highly-rated Manchester City side.

The argument about who the better player between both Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez is getting as overdrawn as the one we always have between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. While both of them are in terrific form, a judgment on the better player is a difficult one to make before the end of the season.
