Simeone has become renowned for his tactical knowledge

Diego Simeone is doing an incredible job at Atletico Madrid. His team are in the race for the La Liga title as well as being in the Champions League final. But according to Sport-English, he would someday want to coach the Argentinian national team.

Simeone was asked about his relationship with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi to which he replied, “He is the best in the world. We always talk and say hello. We have a normal relationship, just like I do with [Javier] Mascherano.”

The manager is Argentinian and understandably wants to someday take charge of the National team. But he also feels nostalgic about his past and would like to coach his former clubs as well.

The 46-year-old played for both Lazio and Inter Milan during his professional career and admitted that his aim was to one day manage those clubs sometime during his managerial career.

Chelsea were heavily linked with bringing the manager to Stamford Bridge this summer, but he put those rumours to rest by saying he was happy at Atletico Madrid. Antonio Conte was eventually named as the man to take over from Guus Hiddink.

Simeone’s men defeated Bayern Munich in the Champions League on the away goals rule after coming through a very tough second leg where they withstood several waves of attacks from the home side.

They also saw their crosstown rivals Real Madrid qualify for the finals after comfortably seeing off a very tame Manchester City side by a scoreline of 1-0. So that means it will once again be a Madrid Derby just like the one that took place two years ago.

Simeone was very proud of what his team have achieved so far saying. “What we are are doing will go down in history because we are showing a lot of people in the world that they can [achieve success]. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the best, but be careful, because we are there.”

“The objective isn’t to reach the final, but to win it. And to reach that moment in good form, you have to continue working hard day-to-day. If you only focus on the 28th (of May), you won’t arrive in a good way.”

Atletico fans remember the painful loss they suffered at the hands of their bitter rivals in the previous final when Sergio Ramos headed in a stoppage time equalizer to take the game into extra time which Real eventually went on to win 4-1.

Simeone and his team will be looking for a different result this time around and hope they will be able to finally lift the trophy after their previous disappointment.
