Chelsea have finally completed the signing of Brazilian Felipe Luis from Atletico Madrid on a three year deal. The deal was officially announced by the Blues on their website.

This finally ends months of speculation over the future of the ex- Deportivo La Coruña man. The Brazilian left-back joins Jose Mourinho at Stamford after spending four years at at the Vicente Calderón.

Luis in his last season with Atletico, enjoyed unprecedented success, helping Los Colchoneros to a La Liga title (their first in nearly two decades) and a runner-up finish in last year’s Champions League.

Jose Mourinho will essentially be replacing looking at Luis to replace Chelsea’s long serving Ashley Cole, who was not given a new contract at the end of the year after falling out of favour with the “Special One” during last season.

The Blues had been using the right footed Cesar Azpilicueta as cover at left-back during the second part of last season. This give the Blues additional depth at the back. The addition also allows Cesar Azpilicueta to shift back to his favoured right-bak spot and allows them to use the versatility of Branislav Ivanovic when and where required.

Felipe Luis has now become Chelsea’s third, and according to Jose Mourinho, their last addition of the summer. The Brazilian joins Cesc Fabregas and fellow Atletico team-mate Diego Costa on the incoming list at Stamford Bridge.
