Frank Lampard is awarded the Order of the British Empire

Frank Lampard can boast most trophies and medals English top flight football has to offer. But, as he prepares to say goodbye to England and join New York City FC in the MLS, he has been awarded an Order of the British Empire medal for his services to football.

The former Chelsea midfielder became the West London club’s top goalscorer with 211 goals. In addition he also won 106 caps for England.

Speaking about his pleasure at receiving the medal, he said, “I am delighted to receive this huge honour.

“I feel very fortunate to have had such a long and fulfilling career in football. This is an extremely proud moment for myself and my family.”

The England midfielder’s long list of trophies include three Premier League trophies, four FA Cup honours, 2 League Cups, a Champions League and a Europa League.

The midfielder spent his last season in England with Manchester City and even scored against Chelsea in the first half of the season.

Lampard was among a list of other distinguished names to have received the honour on the Queen’s birthday. Cricketer James Anderson was among the names to have accepted the medal as well.
