Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels' father, who is also his agent has admitted that the central defender could be open to the idea of joining Manchester City in the summer transfer window. The World Cup winner with Germany has long been linked with a move to City's local rivals Manchester United.

The Mirror reports that the Red Devils are still interested in securing his services while his former coach Jurgen Klopp wants to reunite with the defender at Liverpool.

Manuel Pellegrini is the current manager at the Etihad and the Chilean will step down from his post after the end of the 2015-16 season. Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola will also leave the Bundesliga champions after his contract expires and has already agreed to join City in the summer.

Hermann, the German international's representative believes the arrival of the former Barcelona manager to the Premier League could play a role in City being an interesting prospect for Hummels.

"Manchester City could be interesting. They were not so good this year, but they will be Premier League champions next year. They are getting the best coach in the world," Goal.com quoted Hermann as saying.

Hummels came up through the ranks of Bayern Munich's youth setup and after making one senior appearance, he was sent on loan to Signal Iduna Park in 2008. He then made his switch to Dortmund on a permanent transfer a year later.

The centre-back has been linked with a host of top European clubs, including Dortmund's league rivals Bayern. Hummels’ agent has refused to rule out a possibility of returning to his former club but admitted there could be other clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG among others who could suit his client.

"I only said Mats wanted to play for a top club. And then I was asked if Bayern belonged to those clubs," Hummels' representative explained.

"It would have been ridiculous if I excluded them. I also could have said Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, PSG, Man City or somebody else."

"There are no hard feelings left, you do not take that personally. This is business. Sometimes it gets rough and then it is gone. It is really nice for him at Dortmund but you still get the idea to do something else. He is thinking hard about it and playing abroad is always an option."
