Manchester United broke the British transfer record to sign Angel Di Maria for £59.7m

With the transfer window officially closed and the final Premier League squads announced, Manchester United now officially have the most expensive squad in the Premier League.

After spending more than £150m in the 2014 summer transfer window, their squad now cost close to £380m to assemble.

They are closely followed by Manchester City and Chelsea – the other two squads whose cost is in excess of £300m. Manchester City strengthened their defence and midfield while Chelsea signed Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa from La Liga.

Liverpool come in fourth place after a spending spree following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and made a number of signings in crucial areas, including Mario Balotelli from AC Milan.

Arsenal came in fifth having spent on bringing in only five players, with Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona being the pick of the lot.

Harry Redknapp’s Queens Park Rangers find themselves in 13th spot in spite of only securing promotion back to the EPL.

The total cost of all 20 Premier League squads comes up to more than £2.5 billion!

The table below shows how much each squad spent in assembling their squads (Note: Players loaned out have not been included).
