Graeme Souness raises concerns over Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has raised concerns regarding Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. He spoke about the youngster's attitude and professionalism despite being a 'talented' player.

Garnacho, 19, who came through the Red Devils' academy in 2022 has been in excellent form for them season. With the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony struggling, the Argentine has taken up the mantle of being the main attacker well.

Souness, however, recently raised concerns regarding potential attitude and professionalism issues for Garnacho. He pointed out how United have been a 'glamorous' club over the years, which could lead to distractions. He said on talkSport (via Daily Mail):

"Garnacho for me is an exceptionally talented young man but I worry for him. It's just an observation, called me old-fashioned, call me a dinosaur, but he's got two ear-rings in the warm-up, on the pitch.
"He's a young boy just learning the game. Coming back to the point that Joe Cole would have made about good senior pros, pointing out to younger guys how you live your life, how you act, how you train, your attitude to life."

Souness added:

"And I just worry, it's an age old thing, it's not a new thing at Manchester United, they have always been the most glamorous football club in this country and just like Bayern Munich in Germany are called FC Hollywood, I think you can use the same term to talk about Manchester United.
"They get too much too soon at Manchester United, that's my take on it."

Garnacho has scored nine goals and provided four assists in 43 games across competitions this season.

Manchester United complete 5 games without a win

The Red Devils have had a poor 2023-24 campaign but appeared to have stabilised it in 2024. They had won nine, lost two, and drawn two of their 13 games between January 9 and March 17 across competitions.

However, United are now winless in their last five games across competitions, losing once and drawing four times. They lost 4-3 against Chelsea and drew against Brentford, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Coventry City. They beat Coventry on penalties in the FA Cup semi-finals though.

Manchester United are seventh in the league standings, level on points with Newcastle United (6th) but behind on goal difference. They next face two bottom-placed sides Sheffield United (20th) and Burnley (19th) at Old Trafford.
