WWE superstar Drew McIntyre recently trolled Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney for his appearance at a wrestling event. The England and Red Devils legend was at the event held in London with two of his sons and was spotted in the front row by the wrestler.
The WWE is known for its bombastic characters and intriguing plotlines and the Red Devils' highest goalscorer was made part of the show this time. Speaking before he took on Jey Uso at the event, McIntyre said in front of 16,000 fans (via Daily Mail):
"Speaking of British legends… Is that Wayne Rooney? I've got to give this man his props, from one British legend to another, you were the freaking man in your day. But, aren't we the same age? What the hell happened to you?!"
This is not the first incident in the WWE that has featured Wayne Rooney, with the former England international slapping Wade Barrett after he mocked him in 2015. The Manchester United legend had a more subdued reaction this time, with the Scottish wrestler going unassaulted following his comments.
Rooney is a legendary figure in England. The former Manchester United and Everton star sits third in the all-time Premier League (208) and second in the England national team (53) scoring charts. He is United's all-time top scorer with 253 goals and 143 assists.
He is currently out of a job after getting fired by Birmingham City in January. He previously had coaching spells at Derby County and DC United.
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag bemoans injury woes ahead of FA Cup semifinal tie against Coventry City
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag has bemoaned his side's bad luck with injuries this season. The Red Devils head into their FA Cup semi-final game with Coventry City down to their bare bones at center back due to another round of injuries.
Speaking via SkySports ahead of his side's clash at Wembley on April 21, the Dutch manager said:
"In 18 months I have never had my favourite team on the pitch, because the players are injured. That concerns me. In fact, one time against Manchester City last season in the home game- that was the only time we had a full squad when I could pick my team. In all the other games, there was always an injury aspect that we had to deal with. That's normal in football, but not as many as we have had."
Ten Hag concluded:
"When you have so many injuries as we have had in crucial, key positions, you can't deliver the results you want. That's my truth. Others can have different truths, but I can't put energy into that."
The Red Devils have been particularly unfortunate with injuries this campaign, with the Old Trafford outfit missing six defenders. Ten Hag will still be expected to secure the win against Championship opposition, with a rematch of last season's FA Cup final against Manchester City on the cards.
