Alexis Sanchez who had an impressive debut season with Arsenal after scoring 16 goals in the League was named PFA fan’s player of the season. Over 200,000 people are said to have cast their votes after the 10-man shortlist was released at the beginning of the month. The voting was done on Facebook.

Sanchez beat the likes of Eden Hazard (Chelsea) and Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) to the award. The Chilean winger had arrived at the Emirates Stadium as a big money signing from Barcelona. Arsenal spent £30m on the Chilean who instantly became a fan’s favourite.

Arsenal teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain presented the award to Sanchez and asked him which was his favourite goal of the season. The Chilean said that it was the stunning volley which he had scored against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium. He said that the importance of the goal made it his most favourite goal.

The winger also added that the screamer which was scored against Liverpool in a 4-1 win at the Emirates was a close second. Sanchez put in some impressive performances for the Gunners in the League by scoring 16 times and providing eight assists.

The 26-year-old was the only Arsenal player to be named in the PFA team of the year. He was also on the six-man shortlist for the PFA player of the year award which was won by Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.

The Chilean winger has played a crucial role for Arsene Wenger’s side this season. His first major contribution was a goal against Besiktas in the Champions League play-off which sent Arsenal through to the group stages.

He also scored twice in the FA Cup semi-final against Reading to send Arsenal into the final for the second consecutive time.
