After Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane congratulated India’s Virat Kohli for his performance in the T20 World Cup following his 82 runs off 51 balls that saw India beat Australia, another former Spurs player has tweeted his praise for the Indian batsman. This time, it came from the world’s most expensive player – Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale.

The Wales international had earlier tweeted Kohli and Luis Figo when they partnered together to launch ‘Premier Futsal’ in India with Sport Convo.

Kohli, a self-confessed Real Madrid fan himself, responded to the tweet and wished Bale the best in the La Liga title race. He also praised the club for their result in the Champions League where Los Blancos overcame a 2-0 deficit from the first leg to go through 3-2 on aggregate.

After Barcelona’s recent slump in form, the Catalan club are only three points ahead of Atletico Madrid and four points ahead of Real Madrid with six games to play.

Bale also heard about Kohli’s fantastic innings in the Indian Premier League where the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain smashed 75 and his partnership with AB De Villiers (82) had helped the Bengaluru side notch up a massive target of 228 to win. The Sunrisers Hyderabad only managed to score 182/6 in response as Kohli led his side to a win in their first game.

Bale had earlier spoken about how he and Kohli got to know each other.

“Quite an interesting story really,” he said. “I have been a fan of cricket for ages and started following Virat Kohli, we got talking over social and he mentioned this idea called "Sport Convo" that he was starting.

“He sent me more details on it and I instantly really liked it.”
