1. Courtois was born in the Belgian city of Bree on 11th May 1992.

2. The youngster started his career at local club Bilzen V.V in 1997 as a left-back.

3. Courtois joined Racing Genk in 1999 which was where he was converted into a goalkeeper.

4. He made his first team debut for Genk on 17 April 2009 at the age of 16 against Gent.

5. Courtois kept 14 clean sheets and conceded just 32 goals for Genk, helping them to win the Belgian Pro League and managing to win the the Goalkeeper of the Year and Genk Player of the Year awards in the process.

6. Joined Chelsea in 2011 signing a 5 year contract.

7. Courtois was immediately loaned out to Spanish side Atletico Madrid where he kept four clean sheets in his first six games and helped them win the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Europa Cup and the Copa Del Ray.

8. The youngster won the LFP Best Goalkeeper Award for his performace with Atletico in the 2012-2013 season.

9. The shot stopper picked up his first red card of his footballing career on 26th November 2011 for a foul on Real Madrid striker Karim Benzima.

10. Inspired a camera pose called Thibauting after being pictured pulling off a spectacular save at the beginning of this year. The word is included in the list to find the best sports word of the year in Belgium.
