Tottenham Transfer News: Spurs On Verge of Signing Lassana Diarra From Real Madrid

According to latest reports, Spurs are on the verge of signing Real Madrid outcast Lassana Diarra. The deal is expected to be completed by as early as Monday. The fee is reported to be around £10m. Spurs have been linked with numerous players this transfer window but have failed to sign someone big. Buying a striker for Spurs is a priority. But they need a replacement for Wilson Palacios who will be heading to Stoke City soon. Diarra will join Gallas as a player who had played for all three London rivals that is Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. And then the 3rd person mostly will be Adebayor as Spurs are also on verge of signing him on loan from Manchester City. But how will Diarra fit into this Tottenham side?

Diarra was left out of Real Madrid side that went on a preseason tour to China and Coach Jose Mourinho has repeatedly stated that in the presence of Xabi Alonso, Nuri Sahin and Sami Khedira, Diarra’s chances of starting matches are very sleek.

Diarra's poor time with Madrid

Here is how he can help this Tottenham side, who have flair in their attacking but have looked shaky while defending.

Well to begin with, he can be a perfect replacement for want-away midfielder Wilson Palacios. He can come really good with Luka Modric in the center of the park. He is also one of those Defensive midfielders with pace and can fit perfectly in Spurs 4-4-1-1 formation. The classy player, never shy of going into a tackle, can cover the back 4 really well.

#1: He can score goals

There aren’t many defensive midfielders who can score goals. He is the one who can with his long range shooting ability. He can help Tottenham to get in 7-8 goals in a season. He can even make some fantastic saves defensively.

#2: He had a good time with Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth

Harry Redknapp knows Diarra very well. Diarra’s time at Portsmouth with Redknapp was very good which helped him to fly at the Burnabeu for a reported £20m. The 25-year old helped his Portsmouth side win the FA Cup in 2008. Lassana is a player whom Redknapp knows really well and can work out for Spurs.

#3: Skillful midfielder

He can also play as a creative midfielder or an attacking midfielder. Diarra has got an ability to play anywhere on the park. He’s strong, physical and capable of scoring goals and even has sense of playing anywhere on the field.

So, Spurs are set to sign Lassana from Madrid. Diarra has proved himself in the premier league with his time at Arsenal,Chelsea and Portsmouth. He couldn’t get a chance in Mourinho’s side as he was the fourth choice defensive midfielder. He can certainly take his place into Spurs fans hearts.
