Manchester United have still not done anything significant in the transfer market except signing right-back Guillermo Varela from Penarol. The 20-year-old is expected to feature in United’s U-21 games and is not believed to play a big role at the club.
United though are still in search of quality players who can help them retain their Premier League title. But, United have seen a £28 million combined bid for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini rejected by Everton and two bids for Cesc Fabregas have also been rejected by Barcelona.
Earlier, United had lost out on young and talented midfielders like Thiago Alcantara and Kevin Strootman. But, the United manager has said that there will be some transfer activity in the next week or so. Here are some players that United are said to be chasing:
1. Luka Modric (Real Madrid)
The 27 year old midfielder signed for Real Madrid last season in a deal worth £33 million, but he seems dissatisfied with how he’s been treated there. Former manager Jose Mourinho opted for the likes of Sami Khedira, Mesut Ozil and Angel di Maria to play instead of him. This unsettled the Croatian and has led to interest from former club Tottenham Hotspur.
However, several reports claim that Real Madrid have rejected a bid from Spurs for Modric, because he is interested in a move to Manchester United who have registered their interest in the midfielder and may even make an offer for the 27 year old.
2. Mesut Ozil and Kaka (Real Madrid)

Just when United fans thought that their team are not going to do anything in the market, the club renewed their interest in Mesut Ozil and Kaka. Brazilian Kaka was reportedly offered on loan to United last summer, because he wasn’t used by Madrid in the presence of Khedira, di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo,but those reports soon faded out.
A few days ago, United were believed to be interested in wide-eyed German playmaker Ozil. They had even chased the 24-year-old during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but had failed in their pursuit. Now,United are said to be considering a £45 million bid for the duo.
3. Samuel Eto’o and Willian (Anzhi Makhachkala)

Russian big-money spenders Anzhi are now bankrupt and have been forced to sell off players like Willian and Samuel Eto’o. United are reportedly chasing both stars, who have made a decision to leave the club. Willian is also the subject of interest from other big clubs such as Tottenham and Liverpool, with both of them ready to break the bank for him.
United want players like Willian, but buying him will not at all be easy. United have emerged as favourites to sign Cameroon superstar Eto’o and they, along with Chelsea, are set for crunch talks with the former Barca hit-man.
