5 most expensive players in Fantasy Premier League

Lacazette has just joined Arsenal

If you’re looking to be a part of the action on the football pitch, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is what you need. The most realistic managerial experience football fans can ever have, FPL allows you to buy, sell and manage players in a limited amount of funds. Football fantasy is one of the most popular activities on the official Premier League website and a source of rich revenue for the English League.

One must give them credit too, over the years FPL has evolved and morphed into a more user-friendly product and offers a world of different options including huge amounts of prize money to the virtual manager, making it one of the most sought after games in town.

The FPL’s popularity has grown so much lately that even console games such as FIFA and PES are introducing career and manager modes to give gamers a chance to get in on the management of a club with finances at their disposal.

FPL was most definitely the catalyst for this introduction and as a new season of the Premier League rolls in, so does the money available for Fantasy enthusiasts. Keeping that in mind, if you’re ready to dive into another successful FPL campaign, you’ll need to know the 5 most expensive players in the Fantasy Premier League:

#5 Alexandre Lacazette

The new Arsenal recruit appears to be a favourite among the FPL world already, as a healthy selection percentage has made the Frenchman one of the most popular players in the League without even having touched the ball in a competitive game for the Gunners. Priced at 10.5 million, the former Lyon attacker is reasonable if you’re looking to add a big name player in your team and looking for instant results.

Beware, however, as form plays a major role in receiving points and with Lacazette yet to play in an Arsenal shirt in the Premier League, it might be risky to dive headfirst and place your bets on an unproven commodity in the biggest league in the world.

#4 Romelu Lukaku

From Everton to Manchester with love

Manchester United broke the bank with this one. Bringing Lukaku to Old Trafford was most definitely the priority for Jose Mourinho in the summer and as things stand, it could be the best possible decision. His 28 goals in the Premier League last season has raised numbers for the Belgian like never before and now marked at a high 11.5 million, it makes him one of the most expensive strikers in the FPL.

He’s a proven goalscorer, however, and could be that one consistent player who gets you goals and assists regularly and bumps up the points big time. Could be a little early to predict, but he would certainly be a pick among players for the revered captaincy spot.

#3 Sergio Aguero

Have we seen the best of Aguero?

The Argentine would have been afraid to see his FPL pricing this time around following a lacklustre season for the Sky Blues. His injury plagued year at the Etihad might have earned plenty of doubters but FPL fans still consider him a top player, or so it seems anyway. Aguero was one of the most bought players since his arrival at Man City in 2012 and that is probably the reason why he’s priced so highly at 11.5 million, but a below par selection percentage so far means that most players consider him overpriced with the threat of injury always looming large.

It’s quite disappointing too as Aguero has often been the most dependable player in the game, scoring goals even when the club was in a lull and he’ll hope that strong performances at the start of the season could propel him back to the top of the selection lists.

#2 Alexis Sanchez

Could Sanchez be on his way out?

With questions over his Arsenal future, one would think that selecting Sanchez so early in the FPL season would be absolutely ludicrous. But that isn’t quite the case as the highly priced Chilean comes in second on this list, with a healthy 12 million pound price tag on him. Fans appear to be going according to last season’s heroics too as a decent selection rate makes him one of the most popular players already.

It would be advisable to wait it out with this one though, as his Arsenal future remains very much questionable and even though Arsene Wenger has made it clear that the midfielder is going nowhere, Sanchez’s frustrations are there for all to see and buying him now could be pretty disastrous.

#1 Harry Kane

Kane is highest priced for a reason

There really wasn’t much questioning when it came to who might top this list. Harry Kane had yet another scintillating season with Tottenham Hotspur, topping the goalscoring charts with 29 goals and subsequently making him the most wanted player in the FPL market. The statisticians have made him almost unattainable at 12.5 million but if you’re looking for a consistent and proven goalscorer, the Spurs striker could be the answer to all your worries.

A 35% selection percentage makes him one of the most wanted players in fans’ eyes meaning that the high selling price isn’t enough to stop the mercurial forward that is Harry Kane.
