9 best images from the 3rd day's play of 2nd Test between Australia and New Zealand

Day three of the second Test was dominated by two Kiwis and an Aussie. Unfortunately for the hosts, Kane Williamson’s ton and Ross Taylor’s double ton gave New Zealand the upper hand in the WACA Test as they finished on 510/6 in response to Australia’s 559/9 dec. While Mitchell Starc’s 160.4 kmph yorker to Taylor will go down in the recordbooks as the second-fastest delivery in Test history, it mattered little in the context of this game as the Aussie fielders let slip the opportunities he had created. From the first day of Kiwi domination of the series so far, here are the 10 best images.

#1 Man of the moment

Without a shadow of a doubt, the day belonged to a certain Ross Taylor. Not only did he record his highest First-class score, but he also became the fifth Kiwi to cross 5,000 runs. The bad news for Australia is that he is still batting on 235*.

#2 All in a day\'s work

In the process of scoring his 12th Test hundred, Kane Williamson became the first Kiwi batsman to score more than one hundred in a Test series against Australia.

#3 Time does stop

The first session was delayed by 17 minutes as the groundstaff were unable to move the mechanical sightscreen. While the lost time was added at the end, the fact that the players had to wait so long shows that time does indeed stop for someone, or in this case, some thing.

#4 Showing no pain

With two centuries in two Tests, Usman Khawaja made the best possible comeback. But he will now be out for the next two tests with a strained left hamstring.

#5 Fast and Furious

Craig McMillan might have some reservations about whether Starc’s delivery was indeed 160.4 kmph, but Taylor and McCullum can certainly assure the Black Caps batting coach that he was too hot to handle.

#7 The Mitch glitch

Not all players who were named Mitchell had a great day. Just ask Mitchell Johnson, who had one of those days when he is a threat to his team more than the opposition.

#8 Castled

After seeing off Mitchell Starc’s thunderbolts, Brendon McCullum was outwitted by a rather innocuous delivery from Mitchell Marsh.

#9 Under the scanner

David Warner’s public criticism of the red Kookaburra ball has put the manufacturer under the scanner yet again. With the first D/N Test coming up, Kookaburra will be hoping for a criticism-free month ahead.

#10 On your knees

On a day when the New Zealand’s batsmen piled on 370 runs, the Aussie bowlers had no answers . On this occasion, Josh Hazlewood could do nothing to stop Williamson and Taylor racking up the runs.
