3 worst decisions made by WWE COO Triple H on TV

The reunion was great but the other part of the story was not that impressive

‘The Game’ took some decisions that received flakAs a stalwart running a huge business, you’ve got to take world class decisions to impress the viewers. Especially for a company like WWE, decision making is one of the key parameters that determine the success or failure of a particular event.Triple H has been a part of many key decisions taken by the WWE in the recent years. He made several decisions on live TV that became a big success. There are also ones that backfired and the outcomes weren’t as expected in the first place.Good ones remain as memories and bad end up being experiences. As part of this slideshow, let us have a look at 3 booking decisions that Triple H took on TV and that didn’t work well. Make no mistake about the fact that all these decisions were taken prior to the shows but as a viewer watching the show sitting at home on TV, it’s all Triple H behind the move. So, let’s go ahead and help ourselves by recalling some of those decisions-

#3 Bringing back Batista

The reunion was great but the other part of the story was not that impressive

Did you love the bout between ‘The Shield’ and ‘The Evolution’ back in 2014? No doubt that was a great season and the couple of matches they have had on the PPVs were a pure visual treat.

But the only fact that concerns me was the booking of Batista prior to that and later. He was a part of the main event at WrestleMania 30 and was also part of a couple of bouts against Alberto Del Rio. He lost the former but won the latter.

All of a sudden on RAW, he quit. That was quite astonishing provided the stardom that Batista brings with him. He made a return just for a good couple of months? All in all, this return could be said as a wrong decision.

Dave surely deserves something better than this, doesn’t he? It is always great to see Randy, Batista and Triple H in action together but it is equally important to have good booking for each of them individually.

#2 Sting\'s bookings

Not so iconic match record in WWE

The moment you spell the name ‘Sting’ before a wresting fan, you immediately observe some changes in his body language. What Undertaker is to the WWE, Sting is to WCW! This legendary superstar made his WWE debut last year at the Survivor Series PPV and surprised the world.

While many speculated that this return was just to set up the dream match, Undertaker vs. Sting, the WWE team thought otherwise.

At the inaugural edition of the FastLane PPV, Triple H challenged Sting to show up at the PPV and they would settle scores then. They went through a verbal confrontation and the end result was a blockbuster match at WrestleMania 31 featuring Sting and Triple H.

However, the match was very disappointing. This was a match too big for nothing, involving all the former legends of ECW and DX but Stinger was the ultimate loser here.

A few months later, when Triple H was praising Seth Rollins on his victory over Cena at the SummerSlam PPV, Sting appeared out of nowhere and once again shocked the world. This was the second chance for Triple H to make things interesting. But he chose the obvious and set up a one-on-one match against Seth Rollins at the Night of Champions PPV.

Sting lost this match as well and is 0-2 in his WWE career. This was disappointing provided the fame that he has as a great wrestler.

#1 Unifying the Championships

The Championship ascension ceremony

It has been exactly two years since Triple H decided that the two Championships viz, the ‘WWE Championship’ and the ‘World Heavyweight Championship’ be united and just one single title should exist at the top level.

Everyone assumed that this decision would change the WWE forever but to be frank, this totally backfired. Cena and Orton competed at the TLC PPV in 2013 and at the end of the night; Orton emerged as the ‘WWE World Heavyweight Champion’.

I could say with some force that this was one of the primary reasons for the fall of the SmackDown viewership. The plan was to improve the business and if you lose business due to a decision, well that’s a clear negative.

WWE has had a huge talent inflow during 2013-15 and the lack of another title at the top affected the plans. Eventually there was nothing interesting to watch SmackDown for and so came down the count of the viewers.

Talent management has been always a top priority for the company and when they do something on these lines that would be a bad experience and a chance to know the pulse of the WWE universe.
