Satire: 5 reasons I like Rohit Sharma

H Anil
Sharma ji ka beta

Rohit Sharma is one of the diamonds of Indian cricket, who doesn’t necessarily shine. He has been a talent who occasionally performs. He has given a new dimensions to the trolls on twitter, facebook and also to the Indian cricket. The haters of this talent haven’t understood him completely. They don’t know that his contribution to the world is more than the results of the Big Bang. He has altered the science rule ‘survival of the fittest’ and rephrased it as ‘survival of talent’Rohit Sharma has come, but he hasn’t ruled the pitch yet. He doesn’t believe that performance is the only way to win fans’ hearts. There are many other reasons by the virtue of which his devotees, like me, like him beyond imagination and some of them are listed below:Note: These are my personal views. I couldn’t bear the thoughts inside my head anymore and have written them with due respect to the consistency in the inconsistency of Sharma.

#1 Relief from \"Sharma ji ka beta\" quotes used by parents

Sharma ji ka beta

There is a terror amongst the underperforming students in schools of the more studious ones. Generally they are termed as Sharma’s and they usually would be the neighbours of the former ones. The expected taunt from parents to the hapless failed students starts from “fir Sharma ji ka Beta kaise pass ho gaya” (then how did Sharma’s son pass the exam?).

However, Rohit Sharma has revolutionised the phrase and that has become a big relief for the students who face the usual situation of embarrassment. Now they can easily put Rohit Sharma’s example to defend their failure despite being talented (as per their parents).

But the above mentioned quote is expected to upgrade to “Kohli ji ka beta” or “Rahane ji ka beta” in the next few more months based on the performance of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. Till then, students can enjoy the win in the argument with their parents.

#2 Generous Nature

“Generosity is giving more than you can and pride is taking less than you need”- Anonymous

Above is the exact quote which Rohit Sharma tries to follow in letter and spirit in each and every match he plays in. He cares about the team-mates and throws his wicket early to give them the opportunity to score runs. Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan can’t deny the fact that Rohit Sharma has the biggest contribution in their good form in the last few months.

However, people don’t understand his generosity and criticize him for his inconsistency. But, Rohit kicks back against the criticism occasionally by scoring almost the entire score of the team by himself. The two double centuries he scored are the testaments to the fact.

He does this at the rate of once a year so as to silence the people and keep his place intact within the team.

#3 Adds the much needed talent quotient to the team

Talent vs No-talent (at all)

The exit of the legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid and the presence of the players like Ravindra Jadeja reduced the talent quotient of the Indian team. But, the responsibility of counterbalance has been taken over by Rohit. His presence in the team has reduced the confidence of the opposition bowlers.

A bowler gets smashed for a six with the best ball he bowls to Rohit while gets his wicket with the worst ball. It is difficult to find such an exceptional talent. This might have been the Indian team's strategy to demoralize oppositions’ bowling attacks by keeping him in the team despite his poor run.

There is a great line written for him – ”Rohit Sharma’s talent is like black money. We all know it’s there, but aren’t sure when and how much will come out.”

#4 Becomes a scapegoat whenever team needs

Rohit Sharma taking all the blame in press conference

The team always needs a scapegoat after defeats, to present as sacrifice in front of the fans and the media. Rohit Sharma has been the usual answer nowadays. The amount of talent he has makes him the preferable target for the criticism.

The rest of the players, especially the bowlers, would be happy to have him in the team. But this hasn’t changed the way Rohit plays. He wants to remain unaltered and keep doing the saviour’s work as long as possible.

It needs special skills to become a scapegoat each time and still manage a place in the team. Some players like Ravindra Jadeja tried too much to compete with Rohit Sharma and hence got expelled from the team. The other players who have mastered the art are Ishant Sharma, Ashish Nehra and Ashok Dinda.

#5 Promotes everyone\'s favourite noodles

The two minutes’ principle

Maggi and Rohit Sharma have a very close relation as they have the same approach towards time. The term ‘two minutes’ has become their pride and they don’t want to lose it.

Rohit Sharma could have taken crores of money from this famous noodles brand for promotion, but it’s a surprise he does it for free of cost. The obvious reason is that he takes Maggi as his inspiration and applies its principle when he goes to bat. He never forgets to follow the discipline of ‘two minutes’ and tries to return to the pavilion as soon as possible.

Recently, Maggi was banned. It was expected that Rohit will stop following the brand and try to be on the pitch for as much time as possible. However, he has refused to do so and continued his ‘two minutes’ policy in the ongoing Sri Lankan tour. He has been so serious about it that he declined to score in the practice match too.

The ban on Maggi has now been lifted and it seems that its relation with Rohit will go on forever.
