Top 5 most unpredictable players in the English Premier League

Always a delight to watch Yannick Bolasie play.

While we have players such as Gareth Barry, John Terry and David Silva who assure you of consistent performances all year long, there are some who prefer to leave us guessing. If they show up, they have the potential to win you the game. They are always going to be a bit of a gamble. But that is not really a bad thing because they are capable of providing moments of brilliance that can inspire and lift the spirit of the team. However, it would be great to see them having a positive impact on games more often. Here is the list of top 5 most "unpredictable" players in the league, who on their day, can prove to be the difference.

#5 Yannick Bolasie, Crystal Palace

Always a delight to watch Yannick Bolasie play.

Yannick Bolasie, on his day, can create havoc with his trickery even against the best of defenses. This has made him an integral member of Alan Pardew’s side. Sadly, he can also be painfully wasteful in possession. All in all, an incredibility gifted player who often gets under-rated is Yannick Bolasie. He plays with so much aplomb, always willing to take on the defenders, making him a nightmare for full-backs.

Yannick Bolasie isn't a really a goal scorer, chipping in regularly with the assists, though. But suddenly last season, out of nowhere, he popped up with a 11 minute hat trick in a 3-1 win against Sunderland! And he has scored 4 goals so far this season, including a brace against Newcastle. Clearly, he is not just your average winger. He can be so much more if only he can be a goal threat more often. Love him or hate him, you got to admit that he is one of the most entertaining players in the league!

#4 Bojan, Stoke City

Bojan will be central to Stoke City's ambitious plans.

The signing of Bojan by Stoke City last season surprised many. "Anyone who knows European football will be aware of him as a player and the fact that he sees his future at Stoke City is really exciting." - Mark Hughes (Stoke City manager)

He has shown glimpses of what he is capable of, but unfortunately, spent a major part of last season on the sidelines due to injury. But he has picked himself up since, and has already scored 5 goals this season. And things are looking more promising now for the Barcelona youth product. If he can finish the season with 10+ goals, it will be a huge boost to his confidence which can springboard him towards becoming the world class player he was meant to be.

Bojan could learn a couple of things from Arsenal star Mesut Ozil that might make a difference to his game :
1. Work more on his movement off the ball.
2. Get stronger. Hit the gym and bulk up a little to cope with the physicalities of the league.
This year might well be the make or break year for Bojan's career.

#3 Raheem Sterling, Man City

Raheem Sterling has got all the attributes, but will he live up to the hype?

Raheem Sterling won the prestigious golden boy award in 2014, an award previously won by greats like Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. What is scary is that the same award has also been won by players whose careers went downhill since, such as Alexandre Pato, Mario Balotelli and Anderson. Raheem Sterling can potentially end up as part of one of these two sets of players.

It was remarkable how even at less than 20 years of age, he was a vital member of the Liverpool side that was contending for the league title. And after the departure of Luis Suarez, he (along with Coutinho) was the player the team would turn to whenever they needed something special. Give the ball to Raheem Sterling and he would make something happen.

Manchester City signed him for a whopping 50 million pounds this season and it is fair to say he hasn’t yet lived up to that massive fee. There have been games in which he has gone missing, forcing the manager to prematurely sub him off. He has had some bright moments, though, scoring a hat-trick against Bournemouth and some fine performances in the Champions League, capped off with a brace against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping he can have the same kind of impact against the big teams too.

#2 Oscar, Chelsea

Oscar, the baby faced assassin is a technical genius.

Into his 4th season at Chelsea, Oscar has had several swashbuckling moments. He announced his arrival to Europe with that spectacular turn and strike against Juventus. He has continued to score spectacular goals, always contending for goal of the season.

The goal against Queens Park Rangers and the free-kick against Crystal Palace last season was Oscar at his sublime best. In addition to that, he had so many crucial touches, passes and assists in Chelsea’s Premier League winning campaign. The Brazilian midfielder is such a delight on the eye. A technical masterclass with his touches, backheels and outside foot strikes.

So much talent that it can be annoying to see him drift out of games. In his defense, Chelsea don't exactly play the system of football for Oscar to thrive in. But you got to give him credit for working on other aspects of his game to fit into the team. Most notably, his work rate. This has added more value to his presence in the side. However, he needs to be more clinical more often, if he is to become a world beater. Can Oscar show the same transformation that Eden Hazard had last season? Only time will tell.

#1 Theo Walcott, Arsenal

Theo Walcott can be as lethal as Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil

10 years ago, Arsenal signed 16-year-old Theo Walcott from Southampton, and it has been one hell of a roller coaster ride since. He has had some stellar performances over the years, but they have been patchy and he fails to reproduce these performances on a consistent basis. Maybe it is partly because he hasn’t been given a fixed position - he has played both on the right and as the central striker. Maybe it is because of his long list of injuries - a total of 3 years on the sidelines!

Just when it seemed like playing in a central role would be ideal for Theo Walcott, he picked up an injury again. Olivier Giroud went on to establish himself as the no.9 and he has been forced out wide this season. Again, he is showing us what he is capable of, scoring a fine goal in Arsenal's 3-1 win over Manchester City, but he needs to start delivering on a more consistent basis.

Arsene Wenger would love to see Theo Walcott getting behind defenders with his runs more often. Even if he is having a bad game, all he needs is that one moment. One through ball to open up the defense, and boom! Theo Walcott is in on goal.
