3 reasons why booing Roman Reigns in the WM main-event was uncalled for

The main-event at Wrestlemania 31 featured a hard-hitting and exciting match between 2 of the resident powerhouses of the WWE, in Roman Reigns & Brock Lesnar. The match was everything one expected a Wrestlemania main-event to be, with stiff believable action exchanged between the 2 competitors and the addition of Seth Rollins towards the end just gave the shot in the arm that the match needed to be a truly memorable one for years to come. However, one of the thigs that really took away from the match atmosphere, given the rapid pace at which the action was unfolding, was the incessant booing directed towards the challenger Roman Reigns, who was really holding up his end in the match. While it is understandable that the fans have been divided on the guy in recent times, here are 3 reasons why booing Roman Reigns was a bad idea during the main-event match at Wrestlemania:

#3 Believable threat to Lesnar\'s title reign

While we all love Daniel Bryan and wanted him to win the Royal Rumble, the victory would have put him on a collision-course with the all-powerful Brock Lesnar. Lesnar has, in the last one year, run amok among names such as The Undertaker and John Cena among others. If you take off the over-analytical hats for a second and don the hat of a fan, how would you picture a competitive match between such an entity and a Daniel Bryan, who weighs 100 lbs lesser than Lesnar?

Reigns, on the other hand, even when taking a beating, never looked out of place in the ring against Brock Lesnar and it wasn’t too much of a stretch to think the monster could be stopped dead in his tracks courtesy of a power move by his opponent. All the while, he took some seriously dangerous shots from Brock, who isn’t over his UFC days as a shoot fighter, given the visual impact of his blows.

#2 Expert selling

Brock’s gimmick is that of a beast, a destroyer beyond compare who runs through his opposition with relative ease and very little remorse. Such a gimmick is only as good as the guy who is taking the punishment makes it look.

Last night, Brock looked more of a monster than he ever has. And a large part of that was due to the selling talents of a certain Roman Reigns. Mind you, Reigns is not a small man by any means, he’s as tall as Lesnar and weighs in the 260 lbs category. For such a man to sell a beating the way he did, requires more than a one-dimensional skillset.

While Roman receives a lot of flak for his ring style, his selling abilities last night deserve a special mention, as much as his attack on the powerful beast.

#1 Work in the ring!

If there were any doubts about how good Roman Reigns can be when paired up with a wrestler who isn’t a ring-general (like a Daniel Bryan), those doubts were quelled convincingly by the Super Samoan, who did the tango with Brock Lesnar and pulled off an exciting and fast-paced contest. While the match wasn’t a technical marvel, it wasn’t expected to be one and instead we got ourselves a display of good ol’ fashioned display of aggressive savagery, between the ropes.

A good match has to have two game competitors and while Brock was busy being Brock, it was Roman who made the match with his vastly improved all-round game that consisted of great selling, stiff offense and terrific facial expressions throughout.
