Top 10 feuds that would've looked funny in the Social Media era

Professional wrestling history has given some memorable moments and feuds that we will carry along with us till the last breath escapes from our lungs (unless we get some memory disorder that is). And over this course of history, the business has gone through a lot of transitions both in looks and habits. The current product would find it hard to move along an episode without mentioning social media and none can blame them because of the influence that Facebook or Twitter has on the WWE Universe. The luxury of social media was not something that the good old wrestlers had to build up their matches.Despite this shortcoming they came out writing interesting chapters, and one could only imagine how these feuds would’ve turned out under the influence of Social media. And here we take a look at 10 feuds that would have been great in the social media era.

#10 She was mine before she was yours

When we take a look at the greatest feuds in Randy Savage’s career, the one he had with Ric Flair would always feature somewhere near the top.

Flair, who was champion at that time, was forced to defend against Savage at WrestleMania VIII. The Nature boy wasn’t too happy about the decision and started playing mind games by showing pictures of him and Savage’s wife Miss. Elizabeth with the tag line "She was mine before she was yours".

Back then, it was tough to showcase these pictures during the shows but had social media been active during that time, all that was needed would’ve been a tweet that might’ve gone on to become a worldwide trend.

#9 Married to Triple H

Well, before Hunter and Stephanie McMahon decide to becoming darlings in real life, the WWE writers had this great idea of making them a kayfabe married couple in 1999, and in case you didn’t guess it, the marriage was as bizarre at it could get.

Stephanie was supposed to marry Test on an episode of Raw but instead got kidnapped by Triple H who married a drugged Stephanie in a parking lot. Ironic isn’t it?

The whole scenario would’ve given rise to some awkward situation on Stephanie McMahon’s Facebook page as seen above. Too bad Facebook wasn’t up during those days.

#8 Coconut breaker

In 1984, Roddy Piper jumped ship to the WWE in order to make a big impact with his career. Piper was put right into a feud with Jimmy ‘The Superfly’ Snuka which opened up mouthwatering prospects for the fans.

And it turned out to be mouthwatering when Piper found new ways to open up a coconut. He invited Snuka over to his Piper’s pit at one point and played a horrible host.

He mocked Snuka big time and went on to crack open the coconuts on Snuka’s head in what proved to be a classic moment. And thankfully since there wasn’t active internet back then, we got to see the actual thing unfold on television else the company would’ve confined it to a picture like the one above.

#7 Austin gives some motivation for Vince McMahon

Back in the Attitude Era, a lot of people wouldn’t have gone against Vince McMahon. Why? Well, because he was the boss and that was the bottom-line, nothing less or nothing more.

Then there was Austin, who had no regard for following the bandwagon. He didn’t have any hesitation when it came to voicing his opinion and this habit gave the fans a great promo back in 1998. Austin spat out every word with a lot of venom and the fans wouldn’t have it any other way.

If the angle was pulled off today, instead of getting our eardrums abused by the rattle snake, we would’ve been just confined to reading his blog where McMahon’s job assessment would be typed down in the most rebellious way possible.

#6 The Warrior Savage showdown

Savage and Ultimate Warrior were two of the charismatic names in professional wrestling back in the early 90s and when the company decided to put them together in a program it was sure to give some memorable moments.

The duo had a great sound off during one point of the feud which was iconic and if it had been in the Twitter age, we were sure to be treated with some tweets filled with capitals.

And to make sure that the two men don’t lose their temper and break up the Twitter servers, Gene Okerlund could also be in the mix to play peace maker.

#5 Right to sensor

WWE had this idea of a stable that was hell bound on making the program appropriate for all the viewers. It consisted of The Godfather, Bull Buchanan, Ivory, and Val Venis who were managed by the ECW original Stevie Richards.

Stevie always had a lot of complaints about how The Godfather carried himself around the ring and if it was during this age, Stevie would’ve dug into the Godfather’s past.

And that past wasn’t a good one either. Godfather was Papa Shango back in the days where he was known for his voodoo tricks and dark magic. Well voodoo and Social Media, it sounds like a match made in heaven.

#4 Being Hardcore champion is not that easy you know

The Hardcore championship was arguably the funniest and most unpredictable of titles that the WWE had in their arsenal back in the Attitude Era. Under the 24/7 rule that it was under, the title was eligible to change hands at any place and anywhere.

Due to this, there were wrestlers who became a multi time hardcore champion. And Crash Holly holds the record for most number of reigns with a whopping number of 22.

One of the best segments during his reign was one that happened at the airport. if Crash and all the people who jumped on him for the title were updating their status at the same time, the result would’ve looked something like this.

#3 Hogan turns heel

Eric Bischoff did the unthinkable when he let Hulk Hogan turn heel with the NWo angle. It was so iconic that the WCW went on to defeat Monday Night Raw in the ratings for weeks to come.

It was clearly a missed moment for the social media geeks among the WWE Universe. In case you didn’t get the impact of NWo angle, imagine John Cena turning heel and all the reactions that would flood Twitter and Facebook.

NWo was the ‘John Cena heel turn’ of the nineties and the Monday Night wars would’ve been a lot more interesting had Facebook been around during that time.

#2 The Ladies man

Professional Wrestling has witnessed some ridiculous gimmicks in the past and Val Venis falls into that category. He came into the company as a former porn star and was hitting all the right chords with the women.

Venis had a lot of on screen affairs with the women in WWE and most of them were married ones with Goldust’s wife Terri Runnels being the stand out. Unlike most of the playboys now, Venis didn’t need the help of social media to crack the lock and in case he did, this would somewhat resemble his inbox.

#1 You dont give results away like that, WCW

WCW and WWE were willing to go to any limits in order to knock out their opponent. And since WWE aired taped shows instead of live ones, Eric Bischoff had a habit of giving away the results of those show during his WCW broadcast.

This habit however backfired on Bischoff in 1999 when Mick Foley historically became the WWE champion on Monday night Raw. WCW announcer Tony Shiavone gave out the result on the WCW show expecting the viewers to keep watching the show but instead they switched to Raw to witness Foley’s triumph.
