Once again, Smackdown proved why it is currently the better show. WWE‘s Blue Brand put on some great matches and great segments this week, and it is now time to highlight then in my weekly top ten. Let’s begin, shall we?
#10. Brodus Clay continues undefeated streakAfter Teddy Long announced that Brodus Clay was drafted to Smackdown (like it actually matters anymore), Brodus Clay went out and destroyed Derrick Bateman. Not much different here other than the amped up aggressiveness, but until they actually put Brodus into an actual feud (no, Ziggler and Swagger didn’t count), I have absolutely no interest in him or his character.
#9. Ryback wins againRemember what I said last week? Smackdown is about to become a show that primarily consists of squash matches. With the likes of Damien Sandow, Sin Cara, Antonio Cesaro, and of course Ryback, it was easy to think that. But, I was proved wrong, as there were only two squash matches. Obviously, Ryback was in one of them. I like Ryback, I really do, and it seems that Vince is quite high on him too, but his squash matches can only be so entertaining up until a point. And that point is now. We’ve seen too much of this same pattern this year (new guy comes, has a giant series of squash matches for 6 months), and, like Brodus, until they put him in an actual feud, I have no interest in him. Okay, I may have a little interest in him. He is quite the beast.
#8. Antonio Cesaro re-debutsAntonio Cesaro finally made his re-debut on Smackdown after missing a few weeks, and nothing has really changed. Teddy Long got thrown into the “story-line” (I use that term lightly), and Aksana made out with him after beating somebody in less than a minute. Nothing special.
#7. Alberto Del Rio makes Khali tapTen bucks for everybody who knew that when Teddy said “you will be facing this man” that Khali would come out. Anyway, Alberto Del Rio kicked off the first match of the night by making the Great Khali tap. It obviously wasn’t a technical masterpiece of a match, but it did a good job of making Alberto look strong headed into his championship match. Also, why is Khali still hired?
#6. Damien Sandow actually saves the us from stupidityFor the past few weeks, Damien Sandow has come out and declared to us that we will basically save us from all the stupid things in the world. On Smackdown, he literally did. During an awful segment that involved Hornswoggle dressed like JR mumbling random words like “Sooners” and “Sauce”, Damien Sandow’s music hit and he stopped the segment short. After threatening to take out Hornswoggle, Tyson Kidd came out and made the save. Damien, of course, didn’t like that, and took out Kidd quickly. I think we can all agree that Damien deserves our thanks for stopping that horrid segment. Also, how good would a Kidd/Sandow feud be?
#5. Sin Cara vs. Drew McIntyreIn what I thought was going to be a squash match actually turned out to be a pretty good one. Drew and Mistico put on some great back and forth action, with Drew actually getting most of the big moves in. Sin Cara won in the end of course, and used what I hope is his new finisher. The huricanrana DDT may not be the best, but it’s way better than that crappy spinny thing he had before. Also, turn off those damn lights.
#4. Opening segmentI think we can all agree that Ricardo Rodriguez is more over than Alberto Del Rio. In the opening segment, Ricardo came out dressed as Sheamus as Alberto Del Rio mocked the Celtic Warrior. Sheamus, of course, took offense to this and ran out to take on both men. What I liked the most was that Alberto got the upper-hand again. WWE is doing a great job of making Alberto Del Rio look like a legitimate threat to the title (he isn’t), and I’m starting to get more and more interested in their upcoming match at No Way Out.
#3. Peep Show returnsHonestly, most of those “talk shows” that are hosted by WWE Superstars are kind of lame. But Smackdown’s Peep Show was pretty awesome. Cody and Christian showed off their awesome mic skills, and their feud is 200% more interesting. Cody keeps proving himself as the future of the company, and a feud with the veteran Christian is a great way to move him up the ladder, whether he wins of loses. Ziggler made a nice appearance as well. I was hesitant to say that Cody would win Money In The Bank last month, but now I am almost certain that he will.
#2. Christian vs. Dolph ZigglerWhat a match! When the versus graphic popped up for Ziggler vs. Christian, I was pretty excited. Both men are no doubt in the top ten workers in the company, and it was bound to be a fantastic match. If you saw the match, you would know that it was in fact an amazing match. Dolph and Christian put on all they had in what was match of the night, but their performances couldn’t top our number one moment…
#1. Both title pictures get heated upTalk about a lot of stuff happening. In the main event, Sheamus and Kane faced off in a great match, but once again, it wasn’t the match itself that got our top moment. It was what happened after. After Sheamus won by disqualification, AJ came out and gave Kane to good ol’ big eyes. Kane titled his head confused, and turned into a Brogue Kick. Sheamus then took of Ricardo’s head with another Brogue Kick. The WWE title picture just got more interesting with the inclusion of AJ, and the World Heavyweight title picture has got a lot more intense with the progression of the Sheamus/Rio feud. What more could you want?
