Alex Riley returns to the ring at NXT after Twitter campaign

WWE’s Alex Riley made his long awaited return to the ring during the latest round of NXT TV tapings and got a massive reaction from the crowd. He was visibly emotional following his match and told fans on Twitter that the night will be “remembered forever.”

Riley who came up through WWE developmental when it was still FCW was pulled out of the ring in 2013 and transitioned in to an announcer and host. In recent months it became clear that his passion was still to wrestle, and after a Twitter campaign to get management to give him another shot, it appears that he has indeed got one.

David Otunga has replaced him for his WWE Network duties.

It’s not yet clear whether he’ll be staying on NXT or brought back to the main roster. It’s an interesting situation because at one time he was in high profile role alongside The Miz.

Speaking of David Outunga, it’s still not known why he’s been out of the ring for so long.
