Gunther returned to in-ring competition at a recent WWE Live Event in Birmingham, United Kingdom. This was the first time he's competed in a match since losing the Intercontinental Championship.

At WrestleMania 40, The Ring General's historic reign as Intercontinental Champion ended, courtesy of Sami Zayn. The newly crowned champion toppled Gunther, putting a stop to his 666-day reign on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Upon his WWE return, Gunther shared the ring with Zayn, Finn Balor, and Chad Gable in a Fatal Four-Way Match. Unfortunately for the former Intercontinental Champion, his losing streak extended to two matches.

According to fans on social media who were in attendance in Birmingham, Zayn pinned Balor to secure the victory.

Jim Ross wants Gunther to feud with Cody Rhodes over the Undisputed WWE Championship

Wrestling veteran and legendary commentator Jim Ross wants Gunther to start a feud with Cody Rhodes.

The Ring General might've returned to WWE, but his television return date has yet to be revealed.

Speaking on Grilling JR, Ross suggested the idea of a title match between Rhodes and Gunther. He also spoke highly of The Ring General, stating the following:

"I would love to see Cody defend the title against Gunther. I'm a big Gunther fan. Very basic, very fundamentally sound. He's a machine, he's physical; what he does is realistic, tells great stories."

Gunther wasn't the only champion whose historic title reign ended at WrestleMania 40. On Night 2, Cody Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Championship, ending The Tribal Chief's reign at 1,316 days.

The American Nightmare's first title defense will be against either AJ Styles or LA Knight. On the upcoming edition of SmackDown, the two arch-rivals will cross paths in a rematch from WrestleMania 40 with the winner being declared the new #1 contender for Rhodes' championship.

Rhodes will defend the title at the Backlash Premium Live Event in France. This will be his first defense since capturing the title on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
