At WrestleMania 40, Gunther was dethroned by Sami Zayn, who ended the former's historic reign as the WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Following his loss at The Grandest Stage of Them All, The Ring General returned at a recent live event in Birmingham, UK. He competed in a Fatal Four-Way Match involving Zayn, Chad Gable, and Finn Balor. Zayn emerged victorious, meaning that Gunther's current losing streak has extended to two matches.

On Twitter/X, Gunther shared a cryptic two-word message, questioning his next move after losing the Intercontinental Championship:

"Next destination?" wrote Gunther.

Gunther won the Intercontinental Championship after dethroning Ricochet. During his stint as the champion, he successfully defended the title against Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Braun Strowman, and other top superstars.

His last successful title defense on television was against Jey Uso, whom he defeated after interference by Jimmy Uso.

Jim Ross wants to see Gunther go after the Undisputed WWE Championship

Veteran professional wrestling commentator Jim Ross has expressed his interest in a feud between Gunther and Cody Rhodes.

Speaking on the Grilling JR, Ross stated he would like to see Rhodes defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther. He also spoke highly of The Ring General, stating the following:

"I would love to see Cody defend the title against Gunther. I'm a big Gunther fan, very basic, very fundamentally sound, he's a machine, he's physical, what he does is realistic, tells great stories."

Rhodes' first title defense will be against either LA Knight or AJ Styles. On the upcoming edition of SmackDown, the two superstars will collide in a WrestleMania XL rematch where Knight emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, Gunther's return date is yet to be revealed by WWE. With Sami Zayn currently feuding against Chad Gable, who turned heel on the latest edition of RAW, it remains to be seen where THe Ring General would fit upon his return.
