Randy Orton has received a message from WWE legend and Hall of Famer, Mick Foley.
At Backlash 2004, Orton successfully defended the Intercontinental Championship against Foley, also known as Cactus Jack at the time. Orton's Evolution stablemates were banned from ringside.
On Instagram, Foley recalled the 20th anniversary of his Hardcore Match against Orton in 2004 and briefly opened up about the contest. The 58-year-old claimed that this bout was his all-time favorite career match and that he'd heard it was Orton's too. He graciously thanked The Viper for being part of this clash.
"20 YEARS AGO TODAY! Yes, my match with @randyorton at Backlash was exactly 20 years ago, today. This was my favorite match of my career - and I hear after all these years, it might still be Randy’s favorite as well… I also feel like this match may have had the best elbow I ever dropped, and in great part, because the camera angle made it look like I was soaring into viewers’ living rooms. Thank you Randy, for making history with me that night — I think we brought out the best in each other!…have a nice day!" wrote Foley.

Randy Orton opened up about Mick Foley passing the torch to him
Randy Orton has previously opened up about his clash against Mick Foley at the Backlash 2004 Premium Live Event.
Speaking with WWE Digital, The Viper had stated that the former WWE Champion wanted to show the world that he could still compete at the highest level. He was awestruck at how Foley brought everything he had against a young Orton, who was a rising star at the time
"I’ve got this future Hall of Famer, this all-time great Mick Foley. He’s gotta prove that he’s still got it. Comes out with all the injuries he’s sustained throughout his career and he put it all on the line to show the world that he could still go and to pass that torch to a young Randy Orton. And that’s what he did," said Randy Orton.
Foley is currently retired from in-ring competition. Orton, meanwhile, is competing on SmackDown. At WrestleMania XL, he was unsuccessful in capturing the United States Championship from Logan Paul in a Triple Threat Match, also involving Kevin Owens.
