Lucha Underground News: Rey Mysterio signs 'First Look' deal with El Rey Network

Rey Mysterio debuted in Lucha Underground this year

Rey Mysterio has had a long 13-year tenure with WWE that saw him become a 3 time World Champion and the Royal Rumble winner, which he won in 2006. After his tenure finished in 2015, he returned to AAA after 20 years. He was there for about a year when it was announced on December 12th, 2015, that he had signed with Lucha Underground, one of the hottest and most acclaimed wrestling shows today.

He made his debut in a match where he teamed up with Dragon Azteca Jr. and Prince Puma against three other teams in a 4-way Trios Tag Team Elimination Match for the Lucha Underground Trios Championship, which ended up in a successful effort. He entered at second in the Aztec Warfare and was the runner-up to Matanza Cueto.

Rey Mysterio will be appearing on the third season of Lucha Underground as well as Deadline reports that the El Rey Network has signed a new one-year first-look deal with Lucha Underground star Rey Mysterio. The new deal will see Mysterio develop, produce and be a consultant on creative projects and the series, both unscripted and scripted .

"Rey Mysterio's incredible talent extends far beyond the ring," said El Rey Network President and General Manager Daniel Tibbets. "He is creative and collaborative and has a keen eye for great entertainment. Rey embodies the El Rey Network brand and we are thrilled to expand our relationship with him."

Season 3 of Lucha Underground will air on September 7th, 2016. Season 3 will have 40 episodes, which is far more than season 2, which had 26 episodes.

Rey Mysterio has had a 13-year run with the WWE. Mysterio himself is a 27 year Veteran, having wrestled from the age of 14. He started off in AAA (Asistencia Asesoría y Administración), and then went on to ECW in 1995. The following year, he made a move to WCW where he had a 6-year tenure in the cruiserweight division with the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, Chavo Guerrero and Dean Malenko.

These were the people who he went on the road with, who were his closest friends throughout his journey. He was trained by Mexican professional wrestler Rey Misterio Sr., who is also his uncle and one of the top stars and promoters of the sport through the ’70s and ’80s.
