WWE News: Bruce Prichard talks about the idea of having the Undertaker team up with Irwin R Schyster

Bruce Prichard served as Undertaker’s manager under the ring name Brother Love

What’s the story?

Bruce Prichard aka Brother Love revealed on a recent episode of his podcast Something To Wrestle With Bruce Prichard, that the Undertaker would have been a perfect fit in a tag-team with Irwin R. Schyster.

Prichard confessed that the idea may seem a bit cheesy, so to speak, however, it may have really worked back then with ‘Taker and IRS’s tag-team called ‘Death and Taxes’.

In case you didn’t know...

Irwin R. Schyster (abbreviated as IRS) is a pro-wrestling character portrayed by Mike Rotunda, who is the real-life father of current WWE Superstars Bray Wyatt (Windham Rotunda) and Bo Dallas (Taylor Rotunda).

The heart of the matter

Prichard opined that The Undertaker (Mark Calaway), who was initially introduced in the WWE by ‘The Million Dollar Man’ Ted Dibiase, could have teamed up with IRS and tried the aforementioned Death and Taxes gimmick.

Furthermore, he revealed that the potential alliance between the Deadman and Irwin R. Schyster was in fact considered by the company at one point in time.

"You laugh, but that was an idea at one point. That (Death and Taxes) was actually kicked around at one point."

Prichard, who had initially served as Undertaker’s manager, was asked by McMahon to make a choice between his backstage job as television producer or being ‘Taker’s manager, to which he chose the former. Speaking about Paul Bearer (Percy Pringle), he added-

Percy Pringle had inquired about working, so they brought Percy up just for a general interview to say, 'hey, what would you like to do?' and they said, 'what have you done in the past?' Percy said, 'well, I'm a licensed mortician,' and everybody popped because 'oh my God, we're looking for someone to manage The Undertaker and Paul Bearer was born."

Brother Love also praised Vince McMahon’s visionary approach regarding the character development of the Undertaker, pointing out that McMahon’s theory that Taker would make a great babyface, eventually came true.

He also spoke about the Phenom’s steady rise to the top of the WWE and credited the WWE’s tours in 1993 that were headlined by ‘Taker and Yokozuna, as the period during which WWE management finally realised the Deadman’s talents.

What’s next?

Bruce Prichard presently works for Impact Wrestling, where he serves as an on-screen authority figure as well as backstage in an advisory role.

Author’s take

I have always maintained that IRS is one of the most underappreciated heels in the history of professional wrestling. Honestly, who doesn’t wanna boo the IRS and the government that squeezes every cent out of our wallets…Well, count me in.

Add Undertaker to that equation and you have a dream team. Now I know that it’s all speculation at this point of time, with both Rotunda and Calaway pretty much retired as performers. But as the old pro-wrestling adage goes- Never Say Never!
