In case you didn't know...

Nikki Bella is a former two-time Women's Champion in WWE, and fiancee of John Cena, having accepted his proposal at Wrestlemania 33. She is also Executive Producer of 'Total Bellas', a reality show in which she stars alongside her sister, Brie.

Ronda Rousey is the former UFC Bantamweight Champion, with a notable history of fast finishes with her signature armbar, she is also a big pro wrestling fan and often attends PWG shows in Reseda.

The heart of the matter

Recently, rumours have been flying thick and fast that Rousey is set to sign a contract with WWE, TMZ asked Nikki Bella for her thoughts on a possible transition from MMA to wrestling.

“I don’t know,” Bella said. “I hope so.”

Bella was also asked if she would be afraid to go up against the former UFC champion.

“You always get afraid in the ring,” Bella replied.

With one of MMA's Four Horsewomen, Shayna Bazler, having already signed with WWE, and all four being keen fans, don't rule out seeing the Four Horsewomen ride again inside the squared circle.

What's next?

Nikki Bella will be in another season of Total Bellas, which premieres tomorrow night on E! She also has a wedding to plan, as well as a potential in-ring return and bout with Rousey to contemplate.

As for Rousey, her film career appears to have stalled, with her leading role in a remake of "Road House" being shelved indefinitely following her loss to Holly Holm. Her future in MMA is uncertain, with Dana White reportedly considering her MMA career "done".

Author’s take

A move to WWE makes sense for Rousey, as she could command top billing and money whilst working a potentially lighter schedule. Working with Nikki Bella would place her at the top of the card from the off and the potential for dream matches with other women's division athletes is massive.

This program works for Bella too, as it brings her back from her hiatus with a definite bang and sets up further confrontations both with Rousey and others further down the road.

However (and this is a HUGE 'however') there are big rumours flying around that Rousey could possibly be unveiled at the live finals of the Mae Young Classic in Las Vegas.

IF Rousey were to be announced in the UFC's home city and the entire thing was used as a vehicle for Rousey's signing, it would be doing the 32 women competing in the tournament a massive disservice.

All 32 have worked extremely hard and not a single match has been dull, they deserve better than to potentially end up thrust into the background in favour of a marquee signing.

A star of Rousey's magnitude -- even if fallen somewhat from her peak -- should be saved for Wrestlemania season.
