WWE Rumours: Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg at WrestleMania 33?

The “dream” match was completely rejected by the MSG crowd at Wrestlemania XX

The rumours of a Goldberg return have been hot ever since he was announced as a playable character in WWE 2K17, and it has been fueled even more by his appearances for 2K17 promotion. One of the reasons that people believe that there is a higher possibility now more than ever is because of the history of legends who had not been spoken of for years being announced for a 2K character and then appearing on WWE Television.

It happened when The Ultimate Warrior was announced as a playable character in 2K14, and also when Sting was announced as a playable character in 2K15.

To be frank, the rumours are not necessarily empty ones. Realistically speaking, despite his age, Goldberg has kept his fitness in tip-top shape, and would just require some practice and training to get rid of any ring rust. Also, some circumstances in the storyline seem to be leading to it.

At the end of Summerslam, when Brock Lesnar elbowed Randy Orton to a bloody mess, the confusing finish led the Brooklyn crowd to believe that Goldberg would be out to stop him. However, he did not turn up. Shane McMahon, the Smackdown Live commissioner, however, did end up coming out and got an F-5 from The Beast Incarnate. That clearly was the seeds of a long-term feud or a match much down the road.

In the two weeks that have passed since Summerslam, they have moved the storyline in a subtle manner, with things such as Stephanie slapping a fine on Brock for a measly 500$, and Shane having an issue with it. Also, Daniel Bryan on last week’s Smackdown Live too teased Shane’s beef with Lesnar, leaving it completely open to interpretation.

This led to a speculation of a Brock Lesnar vs Shane McMahon match, an idea which many are not that fond of. But it is still a high possibility that the two will have a match at Royal Rumble, with the payoff eventually being Shane McMahon getting Goldberg to face The Beast Incarnate at Wrestlemania 33.

Recently, TMZ even reported that Goldberg’s agents have stated that the “wheels are in motion” for a Goldberg return, and it is indeed something that will happen.

Looking at all the pieces that are adding up together, it truly looks like we are in for a Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar match at Wrestlemania 33. Here is hoping it won’t be a dud where the crowd mauls both performers alive, like how they did 12 years ago at Wrestlemania 20.
