Cartoon look-alikes in football : Part I

I’m quite sure that there have been times when you watched a certain player and went, “Oh my God! he looks like someone I’ve seen on a show”. Or laughed out loud on the uncanny resemblance of a footballer to your favourite cartoon character. In the worst case, you might have associated a footballer you hate with a despicable fictional character. Here is our comprehensive list of the best footballer look alikes, who aren’t real personas. The list includes cartoon characters, characters from sci-fi as well as fantasy movies, and in one case, a horror movie (Guess who)!

Brad Friedel and The Thing from Fantastic Four

That head can hurt. Badly.

There is an uncanny resemblance, not only in their appearance, but also in their actions. Both form the corner stones of their teams, guarding the back, doing the dirty work, while the flashy ones take all the glory.

Malouda and Predator

Brothers in arms

Yeah, what the pic shows. Some even believe that Malouda was conceived while his parents were watching the movie. Believe it…or not.

Frank Ribery and Sloth from The Goonies

Finalists of the Miss Beautiful Face contest

Frank Ribery had some serious competition when he participated in the beauty pageant. The results never came out, because the judges could not survive so much “beauty”. And just to clear the confusion, The Goonies does not have anything to do with Arsenal FC. Nor was Sloth played by Gervinho.

PS: If Gary Neville looks like Frank Ribery, is it necessarily true that Gary Neville looks like Sloth too?

Gareth Southgate and Butthead

Talk sense? What’s that?

No, Butthead is not what viewers called Southgate after they listened to him talk on TV. Though universal consensus has been reached that they would rather have Beavis and Butthead talk than Southgate and Townsend on ITV.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Astroboy

One fights injustice, the other complains of it

Let’s face it. Both are annoying on the telly, both have a less-than-amicable facial expression, both are the best in what they do, and both have superpowers. It would really not be a surprise if they discovered that Cristiano Ronaldo were an android. That explains the crazy flip flops and stepovers.

Rafael Benitez and Al the Toy Collector

One and the same

One collects a lot of toys, and the other collects a lot of footballer-toys wherever he goes. The beard, the hairstyle, even the smile. Sometimes, it makes you wonder if one is modeled on the other. We’d leave it to the readers to figure out who.

Marouane Fellaini and Sideshow Bob

Is that a mop? Is that cotton candy? No, that is…

Marouane Fellaini pays tribute to his favourite cartoon character, Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons, with this make up. We see no other reason why anyone should have THAT hairdo.

Carlos Tevez and The Incredible Hulk

Is he laughing? Or is he just being himself?

Both turn from their innocent, harmless selves to angry, stupid, rampaging monsters with no control at opportune moments – Hulk when he is provoked, and Carlos Tevez when he is subbed on. The Incredible Hulk is likeable though. Mancini wouldn’t find the comparison off the mark.

Gareth Bale and Donkey Kong

Gareth Bale – A key in human evolution?

Sid Lowe has previously commented that his best performance was in The Rise of the Apes. It is almost inevitable that he would be compared to the most famous ape in the gaming history – Donkey Kong. Scientists are looking towards Gareth Bale in the hope that he would provide the missing link in the evolution of mankind. Look at that concentration, it’s like he’s trying hard to discover the wheel.

Wayne Rooney and The Shrek

Kai Wayne Rooney knows

Possibly the most famous look alike ever. So famous that Kai Wayne Rooney put on Little Shrek as his Twitter pic. With a little green paint, Rooney could be cast as Shrek in the next movie. Not that he needs an alternative employment, looking at his record!

And the final pic of this edition, the best of the lot…

Double Delight

David Moyes telling Mike Riley off. Both the pics.

It’s no secret that the referee Mike Riley has an uncanny resemblance to Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants. In this pic, we discover that Riley isn’t the only one who looks like a Spongebob character, as Moyes gives him stiff competition posing as Spongebob himself.

Hope you liked it. The list doesn’t end here. Click on the link to read Cartoon look alikes of footballers Part 2. If you think anyone else looks like a cartoon character, feel free to post in the comments section.
