The range of Pirelli Tyres used in F1

Pirelli Tyres for F1 are of two categories – Dry and Wet. Following are the different varieties offered within the two categories:

Dry Tyres:

P Zero Red

P Zero red is the supersoft tyre . The Tyre offers high peaks of performance over slow and twisty circuits. This tyre is suitable for circuits with slippery asphalt and low lateral loadings. The Supersoft tyre is the softest of all the tyre compounds and gives high performance over short period of time. The Supersoft tyres degrades fastest among the four tyre compounds. Last year this tyre was used in Monaco, Montreal, Canda and Singapore.

P Zero Yellow soft

This is the most used tyre and has been used in almost all races. On most circuits this is the choice of the tyre. It offers peak perfomance in the first few laps and degrades sharply after that. This year the new soft tyre offers greater thermal resistance to reduce the risk of blistering.

P Zero White

The P Zero white is the medium compund tyre which is suited for all circuits. This tyre adapts itself to all sorts of track conditions, particularly when asphalt and circuit characteristics are variable. Along with the P Zero Yellow, this is the most preferred tyre and is used in all races except on tracks where P Zero supersofts are used. The tyre is more durable than P Zero Yellow soft and teams prefer it for long runs.

P Zero Silver

This is the hardest of all tyre compunds. This hard tyre gives maximum durability and least degradation. This tyre is suited for those circuits which have abrasive surface and extreme climatic conditions. This tyre is ideal for long runs but takes long time to warm up and give peak perfomance. Last year this tyre proved to be too hard and teams had problem getting it to work, so this year pirelli has softened the tyre .

Wet Tyres:

Cinturato Green

It is the intermediate tyre. This tyre is suitable for damp conditions and is usually used by the teams in case of light rain. These tyres have not been changed for this year from last year. The shallower grooves on the intermediate tyres does not drain away much water. This makes the tyre ideal choice in case of drying conditions or during light showers.

Cinturato Blue

These are the full wet tyres. This tyre is used by the teams during heavy rain showers. This tyre has deep grooves as present on road tyres and offers maximum grip during rainy conditions. This year pirelli has optimised the tyre to give more grip and prevent aqua planning. The wet tyres are capable of expelling more than 60 liters of water per second at a speed of 300 kph.
