Manchester United have announced that Wayne Rooney won’t be sold in the summer, after reports claimed he had handed in a transfer request. It is understood that the talks had taken place before the announcement of Sir Alex’s retirement, but United have insisted that “Rooney is not for sale.”

It is believed that the 27-year-old striker, who has 2 years left on his contract, met Sir Alex last week to ask for a transfer request for the second time in less than three years.

Wayne Rooney was a subject of immense speculation after he was dropped from the squad for the second leg of the Champions League clash against Real Madrid. However, it is believed that Rooney might be unhappy because he was played out of his position in the latter stages of the season.

Furthermore, Rooney has changed his Twitter credentials to ‘@NikeUK athlete’ from ‘Manchester United footballer,’ fueling the speculation further. Rooney took the step to remove Manchester United from his Twitter bio, a step that will surely annoy the United fans. This goes on to confirm that he clearly doesn’t want to stay at Old Trafford.
