Luis Suarez has reiterated his position that he wants to leave Liverpool. The controversial Uruguayan striker has said that the Merseyside club had promised him that they would let him leave this summer if they didn’t qualify for the Champions League.

With the Reds not making it into the top four last season, Suarez wants Liverpool to honour their word. The clause in his contract, which allows him to leave Liverpool should another club make an offer of more than £40m, puts the ball firmly in Suarez’s court.

Speaking to The Guardian, Suarez said: “Last year I had the opportunity to move to a big European club and I stayed on the understanding that if we failed to qualify for the Champions League the following season I’d be allowed to go.

“I gave absolutely everything last season but it was not enough to give us a top four finish, now all I want is for Liverpool to honour our agreement.”

Suarez added that he has the backing of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), in case he is required to force a move through to Arsenal.
