After months of heated discussions and unsuccessful bids, Manchester United have finally secured the signature of Everton‘s Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini on a five year deal for a £27.5m transfer fee.

A late transfer request from Fellaini on Monday helped Manchester United to successfully complete the deal. Earlier in the day he was given permission by the Belgian Football Association to delay his link up with the national team which fuelled speculation that a transfer was on the cards.

Everton FC then confirmed the transfer yesterday night on the club’s official website.

Earlier in the summer 3 bids from Manchester United for both Leighton Baines and Fellaini were rejected as Everton found them too low. Everton continued insisting on not selling Baines however they could not tempt Fellaini to stay. He joins his former manager hoping to help the English champions win silverware this season.

Fellaini is the first major signing for the new Manchester United manager David Moyes who had been looking to strengthen his midfield in the transfer window.
