AEW President Tony Khan has received high praise from his fans over the past couple of months. Double or Nothing was a huge success and the weekly shows have been nothing short of a blast. The build-up to All In appears to be on the right track so far. However, things could take a turn this week.
AEW will present Summer Blockbuster this Wednesday, a four-hour episode similar to last week's Fyter Fest edition. In last week's episode, AEW booked great matches and showdowns. This week seems promising as well. Multiple matches have been announced for the show.
However, Tony Khan made several mistakes while booking the Summer Blockbuster edition. Let's take a look at some of the errors Khan made.
#3. No championship matches
The Summer Blockbuster episode features no championship match. AEW World Tag Team Champions Hurt Syndicate and Women's World Champion Toni Storm will be wrestling on the show. However, their matches are not being booked as title matches. The absence of title matches show how weak the card is.
Except for Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay, the other matches seem quite mediocre on paper. Tony Khan should have booked at least two more high-caliber matches for the show. To compensate for this problem, the episode should include multiple top stars in different segments.
#2. Mercedes Mone's absence from the AEW ring continues
The TBS Champion is one of the top draws for the Jacksonville-based company. She is among the hardest-working women in the locker room. Despite being a leading star, she occasionally wrestles for independent promotions. Recently, she made a surprise appearance at the European Wrestling Association's Prater Catchen event in Vienna, Austria, where she won the EWA Women's Title.
While the star is wrestling in other companies, AEW hasn't booked her for a match since Double or Nothing. Last week, she was at ringside and had some interactions with the reigning AEW Women's World Champion, Toni Storm. The duo will face off at All In for the top prize.
This week, the Timeless star is scheduled to face Julia Hart in a non-title match, with Mercedes Mone calling the action from the commentary desk. The CEO has been a huge asset to the product, and Tony Khan should have booked her for this week.
#1. MJF returns to action in a trios match
MJF has been one of the best heels the promotion has to offer. His matches have always been a huge attraction for the fans. Since 2024, the former AEW World Champion has been working part-time due to his other film commitments. His last match took place against Hangman Page at the Revolution pay-per-view. Currently, he is back full-time and has joined The Hurt Syndicate.
Fans were thoroughly entertained by the weekly segments featuring him and The Hurt Syndicate as Maxwell constantly tried to convince them to let him join the faction. MJF will enter the ring for the first time in three months. He, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin will face Komander, Kevin Knight, and "Speedball" Mike Bailey.
Although these three are tremendous performers, MJF's return match should have been against a higher-profile star. This could have added more value to the Summer Blockbuster card.
It will be interesting to see how Tony books the upcoming show on the Road to All In.
