#2 AEW star CM Punk opens up about wrestling his first match after seven years

AEW star CM Punk recently gave an honest opinion on how his body is holding up after wrestling for the first time in almost seven years.

While speaking with Tony Maglio of The Wrap, Punk stated that he felt like 'trash' as he hadn't taken a single bump since leaving WWE. The Straight Edge Superstar explained that the pandemic era affected a lot of wrestlers' regularity to take bumps in the ring, and some may even feel like him right now:

"Oh, I feel like trash, I’ll be honest," CM Punk said. "I’m 42 years old and I haven’t taken bumps in seven-plus years. I think there’s something to building up a callus to something you do on a regular basis becoming easier because you do it on a regular basis. I think a lot of wrestlers are feeling this right now. The pandemic, when it shut everything down and it essentially killed house-show business — they’re not on the road, they’re not taking bumps Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday — I think everybody kind of felt this awfulness of ‘Oh man, I’m wrestling less frequently than I used to, (but) it feels worse somehow.'"

There's no doubt that CM Punk looked rusty in his first match back against Darby Allin. However, he is gradually overcoming that rust while competing against younger talents who are bringing out the best in him.
