A former AEW veteran recently commented on one of his gimmicks when he was still with the Tony Khan-led promotion. He mentioned how it was a bad idea that it wasn't seen through by the company. This would be Frankie Kazarian as The Elite Hunter.
The veteran has made a name for himself in the industry, having had brief stints in WWE, ROH, and AEW, in addition to more than a decade with TNA. Kazarian is considered one of the promotion's originals, as he was in SCU along with Christopher Daniels and Scorpio Sky.
In 2021, he became The Elite Hunter, as he wanted to go after the faction after they had taken everything from him, including SCU. They were forced to disband at some point after losing to The Young Bucks. In the end, he never managed to defeat any member of the faction.
On X/Twitter, a fan asked Frankie Kazarian if he hated his "Elite Hunter" gimmick. He claimed that he didn't, because he never acknowledged this as one of his personas. He believed it was an idea that never had a proper follow-through.
"No, because I NEVER ONCE called myself that. Not ever. It wasn’t a 'gimmick.' It was an idea that had absolutely zero follow through. Shocking," Kazarian tweeted.
The veteran also expressed his disappointment at an AEW faction splitting up
Frankie Kazarian has been open about him not enjoying his booking in AEW, and it seems that apart from his gimmick as The Elite Hunter, he was disappointed at another booking decision, this being the disbandment of SCU.
The faction, consisting of Kazarian, Christopher Daniels, and Scorpio Sky, was arguably at the top of the company during their first few years. They were even the inaugural tag team champions.
Eventually, in 2020, Kazarian and Daniels remained as a tag team, while Sky began a singles stint of his own. In 2021, the two remaining members of the faction split up after losing to The Young Bucks with their tag team career on the line.
On X/Twitter yesterday, Frankie Kazarian replied to a fan who mentioned that they missed SCU. He talked about how special the faction was and that they never should have broken up, if it wasn't by creative making a bad decision, with him firing a shot at Tony Khan and AEW.
"Thank you. SCU was special. Should have NEVER been broken up. But, we were and it was a very….[Stupid idea from bad creative]," he tweeted.
Right now, Frankie Kazarian is signed with TNA after ending his time with AEW in 2022. Scorpio Sky on the other hand has been on a hiatus but has been teasing his imminent return. Christopher Daniels has been appointed as an interim EVP directly working with Tony Khan and has been appearing more in this authoritative role.
