One of AEW's newest acquisitions, Jeff Hardy, recently expressed his desire to rekindle a decade-old rivalry with CM Punk.

The two men have a rich history together dating back to their time in WWE. Punk and Jeff previously slugged it out multiple times for the coveted WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Both AEW stars last wrestled each other on the August 28 episode of SmackDown in 2009. There, The Straight Edge Superstar successfully retained his title against The Charismatic Enigma in a "Loser Leaves WWE" match. After he lost the bout, Hardy left Vince McMahon's company for the second time in his legendary career.

During a recent Signed By Superstars virtual meet-and-greet, Hardy stated that he would be "very excited" to resume his feud with The Second City Saint down the road:

“Very excited, for sure,” Hardy said. “There’s so much history there, you know?" (H/T- WrestlingInc)

If one may recall, there were some rumors about real-life tension between Punk and Hardy after the latter departed WWE. The Straight Edge Superstar mocked Jeff in his promos and seemingly upset The Hardy Boyz. Since it's almost a decade-old story, the two sides could have buried the hatchet after all these years.

CM Punk recently referenced Jeff Hardy during his promo on AEW Dynamite

During the build-up to Revolution 2022, CM Punk indirectly referenced The Charismatic Enigma during his promo segment with MJF. The Second City Saint explained that he once embraced a "bad" guy persona.

Punk reminded everybody that he made fun of a man (Jeff Hardy) for his addiction issues during their storyline, which unfortunately ended with the star's unexpected departure from the company.

Now that Punk and Hardy are working under the same roof again, a high-profile feud between the two men could draw massive attention in the wrestling world.
