AEW stars Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford were notably the first-ever couple to get married on screen in the Jacksonville-based promotion. However, according to Sabian, they faced numerous issues tying the knot in real life due to the angle.

Kip Sabian has had an uneven run in AEW since 2020, and after being a staple on television, he disappeared for nearly a year. Since then, the star has reinvented himself and currently leads a faction alongside his wife, Penelope Ford.

During his interview with Sappenin, Kip Sabian revealed that the idea for the on-screen wedding was pitched after he and Ford got engaged. However, despite agreeing to the angle, the couple was faced with many problems and had to rush to meet a timeline.

"We thought we would have plenty of time to get married, but the timeline of the wrestling wedding got shot up. I’m pretty sure we had maybe three to four weeks to put together the wrestling wedding."

Sabian continued, noting that he felt compelled to get their real wedding done with before the television angle.

"I’m very big on bad luck and omens. I didn’t want to get pretend married before we got really married because, to me, it could be a bad omen for our real marriage. We had to rush to get that done." (H/T: Fightful).

However, the star noted that he and Penelope Ford didn't want a big wedding and, as such, opted to get married at the courthouse instead.

According to the AEW star, their real marriage nearly didn't happen on time

The wedding segment was, unfortunately, a hit-and-miss with some fans, with many criticizing the attack on Miro. However, many fans found it reminiscent of some old WWE angles and praised it instead.

Continuing in the same interview, Kip Sabian revealed that a snowstorm set them back even further, resulting in their actual wedding day taking place the night before the AEW segment.

"That was almost canceled because there was a snowstorm. The night before we got married, they called us up and said, ‘Hey, we can’t do it, the roads aren’t clear.’ The next morning, we get a call, ‘If you get here within an hour, we can do it.’ We rushed through the snow to the courthouse to do it. Two days later, we got pretend married and [Penelope] nearly broke her face on the cake because it was so hard." (H/T: Fightful).

Can Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford rise up on the AEW card this year? Only time will tell, but considering the fan followings of both stars, there is definitely some fan clamoring for them.
